The Debate (no.19); in support of wealth over happiness

in hive-126193 •  8 months ago
Introduction

In the journey of life, two key things we always wished for is “happiness and wealth”. As we all know this two things are interconnected in so many ways and makes life easy for us. However there are slight differences between both of them because while wealth can open doors for you and material things, it’s still can’t make you happy on the long run. Happiness dwells more on our emotional wellbeing and fulfillment.

In this debate, I will be sharing my opinion on why I will pick wealth, any day any time to happiness.

Before going ahead, let me use this medium to invite @dave-hanny, @blessingogah-1 @divinelife @ishayachris to participate in the debate.

Wealth over Happiness.

Good day moderators

Panel of judges

Co, debators

And my fellow steemians

I am here to support the motion of “wealth over happiness” with the following points of mine.

  • luxurious Lifestyle and Possessions

source

With wealth, you can afford the lifestyle and material possessions of your choice. The luxurious James Bond cars and houses, gadgets, furnitures, paid trips to any country of your choice. This are things that makes life so sweet. You don’t have to die first before you enjoy paradise in heaven. Your heavenly life can start here on earth as long as you have the cash to spend.

  • Social Recognition and Opportunities

source

Imagine going to a family meeting and everyone is contributing brilliant ideas about an ongoing project that they are doing but the fact that they are poor, no one wants to listen to them, even if they are genius. The only idea they want to listen is the idea of the richest person in the family because he’s the only one that has the money to back up the idea. That’s the power of money. Money will make you stand out among the crowd. You are recognized and honored everywhere you go. The status you carry alone can make way for opportunities for you.

  • Overcoming Financial Constraints

source

There are many school drop outs in Nigeria today, not because they don’t want to go to school, the reason is because of the financial capacity to train themselves. I have always wanted to learn ”cloud computing” but because of money, I had to go for “data analysis”. Many of us are like me, financial restraint is holding us from doing things will love to do. But with wealth, you are financially free, you can even decide to buy a school and keep in your compound. You can chase your dreams, passion, hobbies etc when you have a fat account.

  • Financial Security and Stability

source

Currently, so many nations of the world, is suffering economic hardship, inflation and hike of prices. But despite all this things that people are going through, feeding from hand to mouth, you will never hear Elon musk or the richest man in your country complain. The reason is because they are financially secured and stable. Money gives you that sense of security. In fact, knowing that you have excess money reading in your bank account, even if the economy wants to tumble to ground zero, you still have that peace of mind because you know you’re financially secured.

  • Access to Investment Opportunities

source

Before the bull run, during the bear season, I had so many coins in mind that I have always wanted to invest in but I couldn’t go for all of them, some of them, I had to buy fractions of it. Reason for all this is because I had limited money. If I was wealthy, I would have bought so many coins and would invest in so many things that could lead to generational wealth. There is a reason they say, “the rich keeps getting richer”. Been rich gives you access to great mind that could connect you to multi billion dollar investments that will make you for life.

  • VIP Services and Exclusive Access

source

As a wealthy person, you gain access to VIP services. If other people are flying economy, you can fly the whole plane with only you and your family in it, you have access to join exclusive services like network, clubs, private school and hospital.

Conclusion

The truth is that no matter how people keep saying “money rules the world”, when there is no happiness, is all vanity!! Wealth is mostly on the surface, what we can see but “happiness” is an internal factor such as self actualization, love life ( emotions) and well being.

But in spite of all the benefits that happiness brings, is far more honorable to cry in a luxurious Lamborghini car than to be happy riding a bicycle!!

I hope with this few words of mine, I’ve been able to convince and not confuse you that wealth is far better than happiness!!

Cheers

I don't know how many really rich people you know... I don't think you would envy them. But I admit that I myself would also find it difficult to weigh up wealthy vs. happy. Because I don't rate either particularly highly, to be honest. Happiness is a snapshot in time. What really counts is contentment. Inner contentment, self-sufficiency, balance. They don't work when you're rich. Then you feel constant pressure - yes, maybe in first class or the VIP lounge. But pressure causes damage...

While I was making this post, I actually asked myself what if a “ wishing genie” comes and tell me to pick between this two options, what will I do??

The truth is that, they both have their advantage and disadvantages. The reason I picked “wealth” was because I have this feeling that with money you can buy “happiness”. But then again, if we look at the story of king Solomon, the richest man in the Bible, even with all his riches, I can’t really say in the end he found true happiness because if he had, he won’t make the statement “vanity upon vanity, all is vanity”.

The reason I picked “wealth” was because I have this feeling that with money you can buy “happiness”.

I hope you can let go of this illusion soon... Only then will you be open to happiness!

Yes ma’am!!😊
