HELLO EVERYONE
WELCOME TO MY PAGE ONCE MORE 💚
This post responds to the Build the Earth construction hunt contest week 6, a contest for viewers and builders. This is the start of another week in this amazing contest and its a privilege to be part of this contest once more. Special thanks to @cmp2020 for initiating this competition, furthermore, for introducing new ideas and opinions to get more people enthused about these projects, both steemians and non-steemians. This initiative will go a long way in adding more users and builders into the steemit community and it's only a matter of time before this feat can be completely achieved.
Moving forward, this is my entry for this week's contest thus:
TOP FIVE (5) BUILDS FROM BTE UK TEAM
5. LONDON EYE
Also known as the millennium wheel, the London eye is a cantilevered observation wheel located at Lambeth, on the south bank of the river,Thames, in London. This magnificent structure was designed by Julia Barfield and David Marks of the Marks Barfield architects and is the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in all of Europe.
The stunning structure has a jaw dropping height of 443 ft,with the wheel itself, possessing about 394 ft. As a tourist centre and attraction, it is the most popular in all of UK, with an annual record of nearly 3 million visitors, alongside several appearances in popular culture.
4. TOWER OF LONDON
The Tower of London is officially known as Her Majesty's royal palace and fortress of the tower of London. Also located at River Thames, on the north bank in central London. The tower as a whole is a complex of several buildings within coextensive rings of defensive walls and a moat, for fortification.
The white tower, which is a general descriptive term for the entire castle, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 and has served numerous purposes ever since, including an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie and also a prison! The tower has also hosted some grand tourist attractions with the crown jewels, the royal menagerie and the displays of armours garnering the most interest.
3. TOWER BRIDGE
The tower bridge describes a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London and extends through the London boroughs from the tower hamlets in the north side and southwark in the south side. The tower bridge crosses the river Thames close to the tower of London and is most times confused with London Bridge.
The tower bridge was constructed between 1886 and 1894 by Horace Jones, in a bid to resolve the demand for a new river crossing in East end London during its commercial development in the late 19th century. The structure has a height of about 213 ft and an outstanding length of 801 ft, making it a peculiar site for tourism, explored through the two horizontal walkways at the upper level where the two bridges towers meet.
2. LONDON BRIDGE STATION
The London Bridge station is a central london railway terminus located at southwark, southeast London. It serves as one of the two main line termini london in the south of the river Thames and the Waterloo area of the London borough of Lambeth. The station was opened initially by the London and Greenwich railway as a local service but also served the London and Croydon railway, the london and brighton railway and the south eastern railway.
This makes it the oldest terminus in London and a very important one too, it also serves as a global historic edifice, recognized as the oldest station in the world after being opened in December 14th, 1836. The station is also popular because of its underground railway, running through the Jubilee line and the bank branch of the northern line.
1. THE SHARD
This is my personal favorite for this week's contest and I believe it is well deserved. The shard is a gorgeous 72-storey skyscraper located in southwark, London and forms part of the shard quarter development. Also known as the shard of glass, shard London bridge or London bridge tower, the bewildering structure was designed by Renzo Piano and was constructed between March 2009 and July 2012.
This mind-blowing structure has a height of about 1,016 ft making it the tallest building in the UK and the 7th tallest in all of Europe. The structure has a very reputable popular culture, making appearances in movies and games alike. Also, the impeccable construction of the shard has welcomed a huge tourist initiative, "The View From The Shard" as it is commonly called, involves a private tour in the viewing gallery and open air observation deck located on the 72nd floor of the glass clad building.
