NEWBORN RIBBON SNAKE

This was an unexpected surprise!

If I am in an area and there is some natural water nearby, I usually like to take a peek. If I'm able to, I'll even take a plunge! The other day, we visited some friends and I was blessed to be able to remove a Common Snapping Turtle from their pond which they did not want there. While walking along the edge, I also noticed two newborn Orange Lined Ribbon Snakes.

In the grand scheme of things, they can't really get any smaller than this. Obviously their mother must have been around somewhere near too, and they were most likely very fresh. I was surprised that I was even able to capture this one, since they are really fast even though they are so little. The other one proved to be too quick. Anyway, "snake in the hand is worth two in the bush," so here's some photos of it in my hand. Enjoy!

Very cool ribbon snakes! I love snakes, but I don't see very many of them... I guess that means I need to be outside more :P
