Steemit Engagement Challenge - S6W6: Role of Witness in the Steem Growth

Today, I am here to be a part of week 6 contest in the STEEM INDONESIA community and the interesting topic of this week is Role of Witness for Steem Growth. So, let's start the discussion and stay tuned with me.

Tell us what you know about witnesses, for example: tasks, roles / functions of witnesses in the Steem Blockchain.

Witnesses are the most important part of the Steem blockchain. We all know that every of the blockchain works on some particular consensus protocols and witnesses are actually the individuals who secure those consensus protocols and provide a fine working to the blockchain.

Talking about the Steem blockchain, it is actually based on the Delegated Proof of Stake consensus in which the block validators are actually called as the witnesses. Yes, the main and the most important function of the witnesses is to produce and validate the blocks that are generated in a blockchain.

In the Steem blockchain, the witnesses, everyone could never be an active witness. The witnesses are actually selected by the high stakeholders of the platform. Yes, the people who have good influence in the form of staked Steem (SP) have more power to influence the place of the witnesses.

The working of the witnesses in the Steem blockchain started from the validation, creation and production of the new blocks in the platform. They verify all the transactions that are carried out in the platform and then store them in the blocks, when these blocks are filled, they are attached to the previous produced blocks and hence the blockchain works.

The Steem Witnesses are actually involved in the governance voting as well. It is actually a process in which new rules and regulations are made for the platform, new updates are introduced or the events are arranged within the platform. Also, the witnesses secure the Steem blockchain by producing the blocks that generate new Steem Tokens at the rate of 3 tokens per block generated.

Why do we need to choose Witness?

Well, I have already discussed that the witnesses are very much important for the proper working of the Steem platform. They provide security, generate new blocks, verify the blocks and take part in the governance voting as well. So, it is very important to have such witnesses that are sincere towards these tasks.

Yes, we have to choose the witnesses as they are the just like the representatives of the Steem blockchain and made decisions within the platform for the betterment and the growth of the platform towards the positive path.

At a time, a Steem user can cast 30 witness votes for different witnesses. Again, the influence of the witness votes depends on the staked Steem (SP) that we have in the Steemit Wallet. The more the SP, the more will be the influence of the votes.

In the Steem blockchain, only top 20 witnesses are actually the active witnesses at a time. The ranking of these witnesses depends on the worth of the votes that they have received from different stakeholders of the platform. So,we can conclude that witness voting is very important in the Steem Blockchain.

As I have discussed earlier that witness voting is very important for the platform so I also have votes different witnesses according to my knowledge of their contributions towards the growth and betterment of the platform. Have a look on the below screenshots.

I have voted 17 witnesses in total at the present time. I used to be very careful while voting each of them and it is very important to consider their contribution towards the growth and development of the platform.

If I talk about the more preferred witness for me then it is off course @stmpak.wit witness. It is actually the first ever witness node from Pakistan and I am honored to be a part of its team.
