Hello friends of steemit, thank God for this new opportunity to share with you, my post today is about the stone of the Orinoco river.
A natural icon full of mysteries, legends and myths, this is how this rock that stands out from the waters of the Orinoco River has been labeled, and is called the middle stone. It is located between the town of Soledad in the Anzoategui state and Ciudad Bolívar, Bolívar state. Its length is approximately 350 meters and 100 meters wide. And it can be seen from the historic center of Ciudad Bolívar.
Although the best known myth about the Middle Stone is an indigenous one that predates the arrival of the Spaniards, and details that at the foot of the Stone there lives a giant seven-headed serpent that, when engulfing everything around it, causes great whirlpools that sink canoes and boats, and they even drag people ...
In this rock formation there are rumors that during and after colonial times, it was used to leave people with leprosy there so that they could not infect others. However, a story well known by the inhabitants about this stone is of a strange mythological creature named Hydra, they say that under the stone there are large galleries that make it up and spread throughout the city and in them lives this monster from the Orinoco and that it is said to be a serpent with seven heads.
It may be that it resembles the Greek mythology of a beast that fought with Hercules, in it it tells the story of a seven-headed serpent, which protects the aquatic entrances to the underworld. However, this myth of the Orinoco was so credible that an investigation was carried out. It was made in the twentieth century by the Universidad de Oriente, where it was revealed that the front part is a funnel-shaped grave more than 160 meters deep, this discovery further fostered the belief of this legend.
