Effects of Fast Fashion on Environmental Degradation

There is no doubt that fast fashion has severe negative impacts on all aspects of the environment. The production and turnover of products is so high that it results in wastage of water, energy and chemicals thereby polluting rivers and oceans. Textile waste is another concern with lots of clothes that are made but go unsold or get thrown away and polyester materials just release limb materials that introduce micro plastics into the ecosystem. The production of clothing is associated with high emissions of gases responsible for climate change being embedded in their manufacturing processes. The aggressive production of cotton and other materials also leads to more destruction of forests and erosion of soils. To avoid such consequences, consumers and brands can adopt and implement measures such as recycling, using biodegradable materials and performing slow production cycles. Changing to more ethical fashion consumption can greatly help reduce the environmental footprint of the industry.
