EUROs 2020 QUARTERFINAL ROUND

The Competition is progressively coming to an end. The Quarterfinal Round has seen a lot of spectacular football moments. So far the competition has seen quite a lot of goals with an average of 2.81 goals per game.

A lot of unexpected outcomes have been seen during this round. Some European Giants were not able to pull their weights, causing them to sink out of the competition. Belgium, for one, have been one of the favourites to win this competition but unfortunately lost to Italy; who have really performed very well in this edition of the EUROs competition.

The match was one that I really anticipated, because Belgium has so much depth in their squad and Italy have just been on an impeccable form, having won all of their last ten(10) matches in all competitions. They say these big games are sometimes anticipated so much that, they are not able to live up to the standard we expect them to attain. It actually is true. Even though Belgium played like they didn't want or have to win the game, Italy were superb; from their constant pressure and tackling, continuous pressing to their solid defensive game. They were just simply good.

For that game, Italy's Star-Winger(Lorenzo Insigne) was my favorite. He scored a a jaw-dropping stunner, that even Belgium's Goalie, Thibaut Courtois, would have to agree was beautiful. The game ended 2:1 to the benefit of the Italians with Nicolo Barella adding to Italy's tally and Romelu Lukaku of Belgium netting a penalty. What a game!

Though Spain hasn't really performed to expectation, they are slowly progressing in the competition. They managed to defeat the Swiss team after they won the penalty shootout after extra time, making headway into the finals. England on the other hand, cruised through to the semifinal after trashing Ukraine by four(4) goals to nil. This match is by far their best winning game in the competition.
Denmark have been like the disregarded underdog of the competition, a team only for them to also show their worth by qualifying to the Semifinal after they scored the Czech by two(2) goals to one(1).

Personally, I think Spain could win the EUROs this time around. I feel most teams are going to underestimate them because of their poor performance and lack of depth in squad. I trust that Italy would bring the game to them, although Spain could pull some bunnies out of the hat.

This is how the Semifinal Fixtures look like;

  • ITALY vs SPAIN
  • ENGLAND vs DENMARK
The competition is just getting interesting! With the next fixtures of the semifinals already set, everyone is on the edge of their seat waiting to see who qualifies and in turn win the European Championship. Cristiano Ronaldo(5 Goals) is the current top goalscorer in the competition even though the Portuguese side has been knocked with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling following him closely with 3 goals each. With two prospective games to play, I think they could be able to close the gap and even widen it, what do you think?

Who qualifies for the finals?

Who would be the top goalscorer?
