Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo has done it again. Despite Portugal was knocked out in the round of 16 by Belgium in a 1-0 defeat but he managed to win the award for top scorer at Euro 2021.
He scored 5 goals and gave one assist at the tournament enough to crown him the Golden Boot winner over Czech Republic forward Patrik Schick who scored (5 goals with no assist). Due to the criteria by which UEFA ranks the contenders ,UEFA uses assists as a tiebreaker, then fewest minutes played and then, finally, goals scored in qualifying if necessary to declare an outright winner.
Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling were close to reach Ronaldo but they failed to score in the euro final against Italy. The 36-year-old Ronaldo, wins the award for the first time in his career. The top scorer honor is the latest in a decorated career for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo also claimed other string of awards aside ending the tournament as the tournament's all-time leading goal scorer. He scored twice in Portugal's 3-0 win over hungry to become the all time men's leading scorer at the European Championship. He ended up scoring 14 goals in total. Three of Ronaldo's five goals came from the penalty spot.
