The highly anticipated 2021/22 season of the English premier will kick off two weeks from now. The new season is scheduled to start on Friday, August 13, 2021 with the first fixture to be played between newly promoted side Brentford and Arsenal football club at the Brentford community stadium.

The previous premier League season ended about three months ago with Manchester City crowned champions for the third time in four years. Pep Guardiola’s men were run away winners of the league with a large margin of points ahead of runners up Manchester United. Liverpool and Chelsea finished third and fourth respectively to make up the “top four” and to seal their places for next season’s champions league group stages.

The upcoming season promises to be a very competitive one as most of the teams are beefing up the squads ahead of their respective campaigns. A lot of the top teams have signed new players to add to the already strong sides whilst some players that have been out due to injuries are returning back to fitness.
All the teams have started their preseason preparations ahead of the beginning of the new season.

One of the teams that have been very busy in this summer transfer window is Manchester United.

The Red Devils have strengthened their team with two high profile signings. They acquired highly rated youngster Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £73M plus add-ons. After three years of following the promising up and coming superstar, united finally landed their dream target this summer and his addition is expected to strengthen their attack for next.
Jadon Sancho had 112 goals/assists for Dortmund during his spell there. This shows how prolific he is and his inclusion will in no doubt make the Manchester club stronger.
Another high profile signing that has been added to the ranks at united is French international Raphael Varane. The former Real Madrid defender is vastly experienced as he is a World Cup winner with France and also four times champions league winner with Real Madrid. His leadership at the back will make the United defense stronger and make them compete for the title this time around.
United are still linked with a host of top players in Europe and they are still expected to bolster their team for the next season. They’re clearly one of the favorites for this season’s league title.

On the other side of Manchester, the reigning Champions Manchester City have been very quiet in the transfer window this season. This is not surprising because Manchester City already have the best team in the country and their quality in-depth squad does not need plenty alterations to be able to compete again.
However there are still news that they are likely to add Aston Villa captain Jack Greahlish and Tottenham Hotspur’s main striker Harry Kane to their already star-studded team. These two additions if they indeed come through, will make city very strong and will make them the overwhelming favorites to defend their title. Let’s wait to see how these deals materialise.

The other team that is expected to put up a very strong title challenge this season is 2019/20 champions Liverpool.

The reds haven’t been so busy in the transfer market this summer with £40M purchase of Rb Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate their only purchase in this transfer window. However the return of their three central defenders from long term injuries have raised the hopes of Liverpool fans and they expect to compete for the title once again.
Notably the return of Virgil Van Dijk after nine months injury will make the Liverpool team even more solid at the back. Fellow defenders Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are also back from their setbacks last season.
Jurgen Klopp is still expected to add some additions to his team before the close of the transfer market. Liverpool for me are favorites alongside Manchester City to lift this season’s championship.

We can’t also overlook the strength of Chelsea for the upcoming season. The blues were European champions last season as they beat Manchester City in an all English final to win the champions league back in may. They also have a young squad that is hungry for success.

With manager Thomas Tuchel set for his first full season in charge at Stanford bridge, we expect the blues to improve on their last season’s league performance in which they finished fourth.

They haven’t signed any new players yet but with the transfer window still opened, some additions might be made in the course of time. Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is the prime target for the London club but the deal seems highly unlikely because Dortmund has sold one of their stars already in the form of Sancho, who joined Manchester United.

The upcoming season promises to be a very entertaining one with all the other teams also strengthening up for the season.
