Welbeck scored for Manchester City
BBC writer Simon Stone on Danny Welbeck's role:
"It's been almost seven years since Welbeck left Old Trafford for Arsenal for £16 million. A string of injuries has prevented the 30-year-old from fulfilling the potential he showed in his formative years at United.
His current goal is his fourth against Manchester City. And in the second half, Welbeck was sure he should have been awarded a penalty when Maguire nudged him and the ball rolled treacherously past the goal."
Henderson needs to justify Sulser's choice
Dean Henderson has been given a place in the squad while David de Gea remains in reserve, the BBC notes.
"Sulscher said both of his goalkeepers would play until the end of the season. However, the choice of Dean Henderson over David de Hea seems like a landmark. Henderson played in six straight games before the national team pause after de Hea went to Spain for the birth of his firstborn son.
In the match against Brighton, however, there was no reason for de Hea to be out of the lineup other than Sulzer's preference.
It has been evident all along that today's situation is untenable in the run-up to next season, and Manchester United may now face the difficult situation of having to sell its highest-paid player.
Certainly, Henderson has yet to justify his place in the starting lineup. The Englishman should not have been blamed for Welbeck's goal, as he did a fine job on the forward's first shot. However, an unsure performance shortly after the cross, when Harry Maguire's intervention was required, was alarming.
After the break, Henderson calmly handled the small amount of work he had. And so far, Sulsher has no too obvious reason to regret his choice.
Bruno Fernandes saves again
Charlotte Dunker on Bruno Fernandes' role at Manchester United:
"Ole Gunnar Sulzer's team is not always predictable, but certainly one theme has prevailed during the season. More often than not, the Red Devils find themselves in a hole, playing without any tactical plan, when they struggle to beat teams inferior to them in terms of talent. But then Bruno Fernandes does something good, and all is well again in the world of MJ.
Another such story happened in the match against Brighton, in which Manchester won a willful victory. "United scored 25 points in their matches, 9 more than any other team. They are comfortably in the top four, but this season's story could have gone differently for them.
Manchester United spent the first half completely uninspired offensively. For the first time since August 2019, they played the first half without a single shot on goal, and Edinson Cavani was largely invisible.
It was a case that called out to Fernandes. And he did his part. Fernandes advanced with the ball from the midfield to the opponent's defense before making a precise pass to Marcus Rashford, who completed the attack.
Manchester has given away assists in every other home league game (11 of 22), and while Rushford has acted well, this goal would not have been possible without Fernandes. Note that Manchester United will finish in the top four this season.
Fernandes did not give a goal pass to Greenwood, but here, too, he was in the center of the attack, giving a pass to Paul Pogba, after which Greenwood headed the ball into the goal.
After the whistle, Greenwood said his team had no doubt they would get the three points, a testament to the confidence Sulscher instilled in the players.
Best players of the match
Manchester Evening News rated Manchester United's players for the match. The highest received Fred and Mason Greenwood.
Fred. Tried but did not succeed much in the first half. Improved his game in the second, and also came away quickly from the Leicester horror show, which reflects well on his character.
Greenwood. After his powerful right-footed shot hit the bar, but he persevered, and his coach will love the style in which he scored the winning goal.
