As we are edging closer to the new premier league season, we can cast our minds back to the last season and all that happened. In the last season Chelseafc was looking to compete and close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City. This motivated the club to spend over £200 million on player recruitment. However, this didn't happen but the west Londoners had a fairly decent performance as they secured the Uefa Champions league trophy.

The Blues didn't have an easy run in the race for top four as they waited until the final day when it was secured. Although they finished one point better than the previous season. Several factors could be seen as to why the big money spending didn't yield great improvement in the league, like the effects of the COVID-19 as some players failed to adapt to the new league and even injuries. Also there was the change of manager Frank Lampard midway through the season to Thomas Tuchel, and players had to learn the new manager's tactics and philosophy.

Fair enough, the team manage to achieve top four qualification even though they performed poorly in their last three games. They achieved that with Jorginho their league top scorer having seven goals and even all the goals came from the penalty spot. However in the previous season, they finished fourth again in the league with Tammy Abraham being their top scorer with 15 goals. This is an impressive feat for the club considering some teams had strikers with double digit goals like Burnley which was relegated. This was due to the strong and well organized defense that Chelsea had.

Looking at the striking department of the club, Tammy Abraham had just six goals in 22 games, compared to Timo Werner's exact amount of goals in 34 games. These stats are disgracing for a top club of Chelsea's caliber. When Thomas Tuchel took over, Tammy Abraham was not given chance at all, compared to Timo Werner who had all the chance with nothing really to show for it. Even though Werner is very dangerous with his pace, he is not just a good finisher. So therefore the blues need a striker with top finishing abilities.

The only thing that helped Chelsea in terms of goals was that a number of players chipped in a number of goals and is not something the blues should rely on going forward. And now as Olivier Giroud has left and Abraham likely to depart as well, the blues with be left with Werner and Kai Harvetz

The two Germany internationals can fill the void in case Tammy Abraham leaves too, but with a total of 10 goals combined between the two players in the last season, this raises the question of whether they will be able to improve significantly in terms of goal contribution. Although Chelsea will likely get hold of a new striker before Abraham leaves the club.

The blues are linked with a number of strikers in the transfer window. Among these are Erling Haaland, former blue Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane among others. These are top quality strikers with huge price tags on their heads. So the blues should be ready to spend a lot of money before they can get any of their target strikers.

However, among the many supporters of the club around the world, the favourite among the target strikers is Dortmund's Erling Haaland because of his age, finishing prowess as well as his potential.

So all of the strikers the blues are looking to sign will be incredible signings and could drive the team to a Premier League title in the new seacson. They will also be poised to reclaim the Champions League crown.

l see Chelsea being a complete team with a good striker added to the team. And when this is done they will be the team to watch out for in the footballing world this season

Chelsea has a good squad at the moment. Even without the ridiculously expensive striker (Haaland), they are quite formidable.

I just don't think they can afford him this season.

Yes, it looks very unlikely that they can sign Haaland this season. But of course they have got a strong squad at the moment
