Real Madrid won the 2022 Spanish Supercopa after overthrowing Athletic Bilbao. In the match which took place at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid won 2-0. Luka Modric's two winning goals for Los Blancos and a Karim Benzema penalty ensured Real Madrid won their 12th Spanish Super Cup title in history.

Carlo Ancelotti fielded a 4-3-3 formation by installing a trio of Rodrygo with a combination of Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema. Meanwhile Athletic Bilbao, coached by Marcelino Garcia Toral, went down with a 4-4-2 formation. On the front lines, Inaki Williams has a duet with Oihan Sancet. Real Madrid dominated the first half with a 60 per cent advantage in possession of the ball compared to Athletic Bilbao's 40 per cent.

Real Madrid broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, Rodrygo moving on the left side of the Athletic Bilbao defense, releasing a pass for Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder managed to place the ball into the top corner of Unai Simon's goal and change the score to 1-0 for Madrid. In the 50th minute, Karim Benzema's kick appeared to hit Yeray Alvarez's hand and the referee Cesar Soto pointed to the spot. Karim Benzema successfully executed a penalty kick and brought Real Madrid 2-0 up.

In the 87th minute, Los Blancos had to play with 10 men following a red card received by Eder Militao and Los Blancos were punished with a penalty kick. However, the kick of Athletic Bilbao striker, Raul Garcia, was successfully anticipated by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
