A very poor result for Barcelona, a team that is frankly facing some challenging times. And let's not forget that Galatasaray, a powerhouse of Turkish football is itself in not such good shape only being in 12th place in the Turkish league. So I guess this was a game between two teams who are just now trying to define their identity. Barcelona has had some positive results in the Spanish league but today they went missing.
It was mostly a midfield game with Barcelona positioned slightly ahead of Galatasaray, the one chance I saw for Barcelona was a free kick that was spectacularly saved by the Galatasaray goalkeeper. As for Galatasaray, they had their chances but I don't remember a direct shot at goal. According to the stats Barcelona had 63% possession, but again mostly in midfield.
I think Xavi has a lot of work to do with this team, they do have some good players but it seems they don't fit together. I do think just seeing Barcelona in Europa League must be a downer for its fans especially when they can't win at home. As for Galatasaray I would think a draw in Barcelona should be a moral booster, still this is in the air, Istanbul is a very hard place to play at, so Galatasaray going through would not surprise me.
