The Champion won, but not quite as easily as expected. Lille are not doing too good in the Ligue Un, and Chelsea were the home club. I did not expect a huge score against Lille but I certainly expected Chelsea to be more dominating. This was not so, both teams played open football each side looking for goals. Chelsea's virtue was in scoring two of their chances.
The first half was about equal, Chelsea had more control but Lille's attacks were extremely dangerous. The difference came from a corner kick which Havertz capitalized with a header, bad defending from Lille for this goal. Lille tried in what remained of the first half but the score did not move.
The second half was very similar to the first half only this time the second goal came from an Ngolo Kante counterattack, he eluded a couple of defenders and then passed the ball to a solitary Pulicic who scored a relatively easy goal, I must say he did show good resources in his kick, some other players can't score these type of goals. After that again Lille tried but it was useless, the referee gave 5 minutes overtime but nothing happened so Chelsea take an important lead before the game in France. I think this tie is settled, Lille have to go for an all out attack next game and Chelsea are extremely good on the counter attack. In the other game Villarreal and Juventus drew 1-1, so nothing is settled here.
