This afternoon I saw the Super Cup game between Chelsea who was the UEFA Champions League winner vs Villarreal the UEFA Europa League winner. I didn't even know it was going to be played, luckily i read about it in the newspaper so I was ready when it started. First of all I am neither a Chelsea or Villarreal fan so no nerves were involved. Second, I was quite sure Chelsea would take an easy win because of the players they have, sure it is 11 against 11 and nothing is sure in a football game but being it is the start of the season I figured Chelsea's players were in better shape.

Well the game did start out that way and eventually in the first half Chelsea did score their goal after a constant attacking game, Ziyech whom was even said to be on a transfer list scored. I thought it was settled, but no, Tuchel decided in the second half to play more conservatively, even substituting Kante who was the captain, well he might have been injured but I don't think so, I think Tuchel was just trying to hold on to the 1-0. As always this backfired, Villarreal scored a very good goal and then did the same thing as Chelsea for the rest of the game and overtime, defend.

Sometimes this really gets to me, a team has the psychological advantage and they give it away by not attacking any more, to me, that is just the right moment to kill the game. But, both teams were intent on this thing going to penalties after the 30 minutes extra time which Chelsea completely dominated it ended up in that. Tuchel substituted Mendy for Kepa in the last minute to stop penalties.

And it worked for him, Kepa stopped two penalties and Chelsea got the one title I think they were missing having lost twice before in penalty kicks. I do think Chelsea deserved the win they were better than Villarreal for most of the game, so kudos to them. Now they can also take the Team World Cup which I think is in December, that would be a great season for them three trophies which is more than most teams get in a given year.
