Panama offside goal against Honduras
Goal not given to Peru
Goal not given to Portugal
What is happening with referees for the World Cup qualifiers? I have seen three incredibly ill though out calls that directly affected the result of three games. Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was not given against Serbia last year, last night a goal that would have tied the Uruguay-Peru match, and in the Panama-Honduras game, an offside goal allowed in Panama's favor.
Of these, the only ones that have had a direct effect on the qualification are the Portugal and Peru goals. If they had been given Portugal would already be qualified not in a playoff and Peru would have the chance of qualifying directly, instead, now they have to win to be in the final playoff against Australia.
In the Portugal goal, the referee apologized to the Portuguese coach for his mistake, this is not what this is about, either FIFA should have allowed the goal and given Portugal the win, or more logically and doable sanction this inept referee for a few years. Referees always get away with bad decisions that are obviously not sanctioned or sanctioned because the referee wants to go a certain way. For example, Thierry Henry' handled the ball about three times against Ireland, the referee was not sanctioned but what did happen was that FIFA gave Ireland a few million Euros to keep them quiet. I think this is corruption, FIFA is completely corrupt as are most sports.
As for the Panama goal we were able to end up with a draw, which should have been a win, reducing Panama's options of getting to a playoff. For the Russian qualifiers, Panama made it after the referee validated a goal where the ball didn't even touch the line much less enter, they went on to win this game against Costa Rica, leaving us to a playoff which we lost. If things had been refereed correctly we would have gone directly, USA to the playoff and Panama home.
You know our greatest regional rival is Costa Rica, I always want them to lose, last night we did them a favor, now it is in their hands to get to the playoff. I guess I want Panama out, Panama has received enough referee help already. I feel bad for Peru most of all, they have been playing really well and this is not the first time the referee decisions have affected them negatively.
In any case, in a few weeks, we will know who finally make it through. But my point is, we have VAR now and the eagle eye, mistakes like these should not be happening, I really think these mistakes are not human errors, they are made knowingly. For the Peruvian goal, it is said VAR told the referee the ball did not go in all the way, funnily they never shared the last line camera which would have dispelled all doubts. In the Panama goal, they had VAR in this game also, how could they not see this offside?
These are very big errors that were committed by there referees and I hope they will learn from them. Thanks for sharing
