Matchday 5 of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League's 2021/22 edition kicks off this week. On Tuesday, several intriguing matchups are slated, including Villarreal hosting Manchester United at El Madrigal, with the two teams slugging it out for first place in Group F.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking as Manchester United's head coach was revealed on Sunday morning, Michael Carrick will lead the team into Tuesday's Champions League match against Villarreal.

Man United knows that a win over the Yellow Submarine will secure their place in the competition's knockout round with a game to spare, but a loss will leave them vulnerable in Group F.
Manchester United has entered a period of transition following the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Michael Carrick has been appointed as the interim manager of a team that has been very inconsistent so far this season, winning only two of their four games in the UEFA Champions League.

Villarreal has a European record that is identical to Manchester United's, and the only reason they are behind their opponents is since they lost the reverse fixture. The Yellow Submarine have been hot and cold recently, winning only two of their previous six games in all competitions, and their dip in La Liga has dropped them to 12th place in the table.

As previously stated, Manchester United defeated Villarreal 2-1 in the reverse encounter, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the game-winning goal in injury time. The Hard Tackle examines the matchup before of the most recent meeting between the two teams.
Villarreal will aim to utilize the pressure on Man United to motivate them on Tuesday, and a win for the Yellow Submarine would see them advance for the knockout phase if Atalanta BC fails to defeat Young Boys in Group F's other match.
Unai Emery's team are in second place in the group, tied on seven points with their opponents, while Atalanta are in third place with five points ahead of the penultimate round of fixtures.

Villarreal will enter Tuesday's match with a three-game unbeaten streak, having beaten Young Boys 2-0 in the Champions League before defeating Getafe and drawing with Celta Vigo in La Liga both before and after the international break.
The Spaniards were superb against Man United in the rematch at Old Trafford at the end of September, but were defeated 2-1; they have since bounced back by defeating Young Boys both at home and away to go to seven points in the division.

The Manchester United board confirmed Solskjaer's dismissal on Sunday, after the Norwegian failed to survive a 4-1 defeat against Watford in the Premier League; Carrick has been placed in charge for the time being while the club searches for an interim manager until the end of the season.

Man United's Premier League form has been poor, with the Red Devils losing five of their past seven games, including four of their last five against Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Watford.
With Chelsea 12 points clear at the top, any ambitions of a title challenge are gone, but the Red Devils will still believe they can finish in the top four this season, and they are on track to reach the Champions League knockout phase.

The Red Devils lost their section opener to Young Boys in mid-September, but have since picked up seven points from their past three games against Villarreal and Atalanta, despite needing late comebacks in all three games to finish first in the group.
Man United will advance to the round of 16 if they win on Tuesday, while a draw would suffice if Young Boys hold Atalanta, and there is no doubt that the club is in desperate need of a confidence boost ahead of their Premier League trip to Chelsea on November 28.

Scores Prediction

Man United's reaction, after their dismal performance at Watford on Saturday, will be fascinating to watch. Given that the Red Devils complete their season at home against Young Boys, a win would be a good result for them, and I believe the two teams will play a low-scoring game.
Villarreal 1-2 Manchester United
