MARCUS RASHFORD : A REAL LIFE HERO

in hive-130734 •  4 years ago

Marcus has had his best season on the field, earned a doctorate and an MBE, and most notably, helped four million children in the United Kingdom eat while they were on the verge of going hungry.

This isn't a football game. It's also not about politics. It's also not an attempt to smear Rashford's name in the raging humanitarian GOAT debate between Team Mandela and Team Theresa. This is simply an ode to a remarkable young man and his remarkable accomplishments.

Manchester United is a global club, and it's possible that we haven't screamed loudly enough about Marcus's behavior up to this stage. The basic summary of what he's doing is that he's trying to feed children in the United Kingdom who are at risk of going hungry.

It isn't any more complicated than that in fact. Marcus said earlier this year said “Let us stand united in saying that no child in the UK should go to bed or hungry,” . Like I've said many times before, it's never the child's fault that they don't have access to food, regardless of how you feel or what you think.”

Surprisingly, there are those who are offended by Marcus's behaviour. Their efforts to throw shade are usually exchanged and repeated.

Stick to football and stay in your lane.

It is the responsibility of parents to feed their children when they are hungry.

If you're so worried, pay for it all yourself.

Stop praising others for their virtues.

“On a serious note, what is virtue signalling?” Marcus tweeted on Wednesday night after scoring a hat-trick and securing his place as United's top scorer this season.

It's basically Marcus Rashford's antonym. This isn't a young man attempting to establish a brand or cultivate public perception by affixing himself to the hull of a noble ship. He's at the wheel, just pausing to give shy, almost apologetic interviews in order to raise awareness for his cause. Furthermore, rather than spouting empty rhetoric, history has shown that he is a man of action.

Marcus paid for hospital beds to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. In response to the city's rising homeless population in 2019, he launched a charity initiative in collaboration with Selfridges. Tackling racism is a more challenging job to measure, but pointing it out on social media is his way of directly addressing the issue, while his continued popularity as a young black man, both working class and world class, plays the longer game of highlighting socioeconomic opportunities as they should be.

To summarize, he advocates equality for all races, as well as food and shelter for all. It's difficult to imagine any space for a different stance in there, which is why Marcus has gained praise from all corners of the game, both inside and out. He has risen above tribalism. If fans were allowed into stadiums, he'd get standing ovations from even the most ardent anti-United supporters, because certainly – surely – we can all see where the lines are drawn on this kind of thing. Raheem Sterling has been a powerful anti-racism activist. During the lockdown, Jordan Henderson was the driving force behind the #PlayersTogether campaign, which raised millions of dollars for the NHS.

Individuals and companies throughout the United Kingdom were motivated by United's no.10 to help feed the hungry children. United made a contribution of 5,000 meals. As micro-solutions poured in, Marcus proceeded to campaign for a parliamentary petition that would offer long-term relief for those in need. The House of Commons needs 100,000 signatures to be eligible for discussion, but there were approximately one million extra signatures given at the time of writing.

Like I said earlier, Be the difference you want to see in the world.

He's a successful, talented, and selfless young man who, though excelling for his boyhood club, is pointing us towards a brighter future as a society. There can't be a more fitting moment than the Wednesday night, when he scored a hat-trick in the Champions League while wearing boots with good luck messages from children he's helped to feed.

Marcus embodied the change he desired to see in the world, and that change is reverberating across society. Look at this remarkable man doing extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances.
