I promise you are going to read this again.

Hello freinds, thank you for reading. I am so excited to be here to discuss with you the contest topic of the week; "Tell us about your favorite role".

I will do this by answering the basic questions associated with this important topic.

The first one is "Which would you prefer if you had to pick one".

The one i prefer the most is being a football player because i play and i play good. My favorite role as a football player is the deep lying playmaker(DLP) also known as regista

It is one of the Italian football brands of playmakers. What they term as a “Regista” is a player who generally takes up the central midfield position, but much more close to the backline.
A regista takes up the position where the traditional central defensive midfielder would be. A Regista is not burdened with defensive roles.
Nowadays, almost every successful team all around the world has felt the necessity of deploying a Regista in their tactics for more control and stability in their play.
The primary duty is to help the team build-up play from the back. We(because i am one) would help the team soak up high press from the opponent attackers and spread the ball around the park if and when he sees a teammate in space in the attacking half. When out of position, we may be required to press the opponent depending on our pressing capability and the manager tactics.

The next question to be answered is "Tell us about the chosen role and your reason for such preference?".

Technically, a regista is helping his team play from the back, retain possession and control the flow of the game. His roles listed;

  • The natural ability to read the game is so important for a regista. This allows him to take positions from where he can orchestrate the play, and open up the game for his teammates.
  • A register must have great gift of being able to visualise and anticipate plays before everyone else does. His vision, what he can do with the ball, and what he’s able to create, make him a true superstar.
  • Truly enough, registas are quite hard to come across in football, especially because of the natural attributes that a player must have to play the regista role.

In short, the player has to be a world-class distributor of the ball, has to be blessed with an excellent vision so that he can pick out a teammate anywhere in the pitch while first touch and composure are also some of the other key attributes that are required for playing the role of a regista.

My reasons for choosing to be deep-lying midfielder

Being a football player, your quality determines how you can help the team. A player with defensive prowess and tackling ability might decide to opt in to be a central defender and so on. As a player who is a great distributor of the ball, and who is also blessed with an excellent vision that can pick out a teammate anywhere in the pitch, i am very suited for the role and learning that and taking the decision is the best thing possible. This would enable me help my teammates and enjoy myself on the field of play

What are your goals for your first year of the job?

As a young player, if i get professionally signed, I would make the best out of my first year. it means i would get to train with more experienced and ready-made professionals. The best thing i would do in my first year is learn from the best to improve and be at my best too. I would make good use of the opportunity to analyze my teammates, learn the basic stuffs and work hard for improvement. I would listen to the coach instructions, take guidance from my teammates and be disciplined enough to be ready mentally and physically for my team whenever i am called upon.

The last question i will be answering is "Is there any particular person you look up to?"

Yes, there are many great players who play that role in modern day football. The one that particularly stands out for me is Jorginho, a regista on a rainy english afternoon.

  • Jorginho is greatly known for his composure and versatility, which allows him to be deployed in any midfield position.

  • Due to his work-rate, technique, ability to break down possession, vision, and passing accuracy, he is capable of playing in a central box-to-box role, or in a defensive role. However, he usually plays in a creative role, as a deep-lying playmaker. A position which allows him more time on the ball to control the tempo of his team’s play with his short, horizontal passing game.

  • Jorginho is a visionary player on the football pitch, constantly waving his arms around and directing his teammates where to pass. He’s always mopping up the floor whenever the opponent gets the ball, recycling possession in a span of seconds.

At the moment, he is pulling all the strings in the centre of the park and living up to his burgeoning reputation. Jorginho averaged a pass every 50 seconds in his last season at Napoli, and the top 10 Serie A passing records in a single game are all held by him, in a span of just over 3 years. He’s brought his vision, his reading of the game and passing ability to the Premier League, and Chelsea are already reaping rewards.
