Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper, Andre Onana has see his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) accepted with his initial one-year ban reduced by three months.

The Cameroon international was banned in February by Europe's governing body, UEFA after testing positive to a banned substance, Furomise which he claimed belonged to his wife.

CAS after listening to Onana's appeal think the initial verdict by UEFA to ban him for one year was excessive, hence, reduced it to nine months.

This means that Onana may now return to playing active football by November 2021, although, he could start training with his team two months ahead of that time, having trained alone since February. The news may come as a big boost for Arsenal who have been in talks with the representative's of the Nkol-Ngok born shot-stopper.

The Gunners are rumored to be in search of a goalkeeper following reports that Bernd Leno has made known his desire to leave the club in search of greener pastures and European football which Arsenal cannot offer him next season.

Mikel Arteta's side had initially made enquiry about Onana in January, but were unable to pursue any deal due to financial constraint, which eventually saw them take Matt Ryan on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

It is reported that given the reduction in his ban, which means he will be available for selection within the first half of next season, Arsenal may want to test the resolve of Ajax with a bid within the range of £7 million.

Ajax could be open to selling the 24-year old former Barcelona youth player who may become a free agent next summer if he doesn't sign a new contract with the Eredivise side.

Should Leno leave, a lot of Arsenal fans and indeed the club's management will feel a bit undone, having allowed Emiliano Martinez leave last summer because of the German.

Martinez went on to be very integral to the Villa side that finished 11th on the log, for a team that barely escaped relegation the season before and the Argentine kept 15 clean sheets, the third best in the league.

Thank you for your well written update.

Onana in Arsenal though? I don't know why i don't see that happening :)

Thank you for stopping by. 😁

Of course, one may count a number of reasons it may not see the light of the day.

  1. Arsenal can't offer European football
  2. They don't look like a championship winning side
  3. If Leno doesn't leave.
  4. Arsenal's unwillingness to match the asking

Nonetheless, impossible is nothing in football. Moreso, he doesn't get to play until late in the year. What if their current first choice at Ajax proves his mettle.?

Just like the game, these transfers are unpredictable.

Great analysis. The reasons you raised are totally on point.

I hope to see him play in the premier league in the nearest future though as I believe he has a lot of potential.
Hopefully the likely impossible becomes possible and Arsenal buys him. :)

Sadly, the news isn't even making the rumour mills anymore... Everything with Arsenal is never sure until done.

Don't be surprised if another Premier League giant snaps him up...

These substances have hurt a lot of careers and it is high time players refrained from them.

Well, he's made his case and accepted his mistake. I believe the sanction was overflogged too.

Thanks for the advise. I'm sure one that appreciates great content and won't hold back when I see one.

Cheers!
