REAL MADRID HELD TO A DRAW AT THE BERNABAU

Going into this game real Madrid knew that it wouldn't be easy to play against Elche even though they had seven of their players out. Ancelotti decided to start Hazard after his impressive performance against Elche in the copa dey rey tie when he scored the winner in their comeback win against them midweek. asension was out due to injury and Rodrygo was on the bench. As expected as soon as the match started real Madrid looked to take the lead and boy they had so many chances which on a normal day this real Madrid squad will close their eyes and score them. Taking those first half chances into consideration Real Madrid should have been 2 or 3 nil up even before the half time break.

It was rather unfortunate for Madrid fans that the Elche keeper upped his game today even though he knew he was going to be playing at the Santiago Bernabeu. The elche defense where exceptional in the fisrt half, they did really well to contain real Madrid in the first half even though for most parts of the game vinicious and Benzema where constantly getting into pockets of spaces which they needed their keeper to come to their rescuer for that they were still good.

As i said vinicious was constantly getting into pocket of spaces so it was unsurprising when he was fouled him in the box to give Madrid a chance to take the lead in the first half but unfortunately Karim Benzema stepped forward and missed it even though he was able to beat the keeper, his shot well just wide of the right top bar. After the miss Madrid continued to pile on the pressure on Elche and the first half was set on ending on a nil nil score until Elche broke on the counter and moved forward very quickly. Fidel found himself around the corner flag and after lifting his had he was able to play a low cross onto the path of their top scorer Lucas Boye who didn't make a mistake of heading it straight into the net.

Against the run of play Elche took the lead in the first half and they were able to see out in the first half. In the second half real picked up from where they had stopped and continued to pile on the pressure but could not get an equalizer. As they tried all their luck Elche wanted only one chance to make it 2-0 after Ferland Mendy failed to track the run of Milla who was played in beautifully by Lucas Boye; the scorer of the first goal.

After the 2 nil I thought hope was lost but as real Madrid always do they believed that there was still time for them to get something out of the game and this time around they tried new things. They begun shooting from outside the box and also trying to dribble their way in. From a corner which Alaba tried to head back into the box madid got a penalty which modric took wonderfully to make it 2-1. At this stage it was still 82 minutes on the clock so they continued pushing for the win which eventually came from a Militao header but the work rate which vinicious put into keeping that ball from going out and crossing it back into the net was superb.

Real Madrid were held to a draw which they did not want obviously but at least a point is better than nothing. They are currently 4 points off sevilla who are second in the table.
