Chelsea football club don't tend to hold on to managers for long, and they don't accept failure either. This season has been a difficult one for Frank Lampard as he struggled to integrate £200 million of new talent into his team. Currently Chelsea sit in 9th place in the Premier League, and have won only 2 of their last 7 league games.

Rumours had been flying around that Lampard's position might be in jeopardy, even though he was a fan's favourite as a player, and was a legend at the club. Time was obviously something that he was never going to get, and after 18 months in charge he has been sacked.

Chelsea in an official statement said "This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the board have taken lightly. We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as head coach of the club. However, recent results and performances have not met the club's expectations, leaving the club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement. There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the club time to improve performances and results this season."

As to who is likely to take over, the big favourite is Thomas Tuchel who was in charge at Paris Saint Germain, however don't be surprised if Rafael Benitez also comes into the mix as a stop gap manager if the individual Roman Abramovich really wants is not quite available yet. Benitez was in charge of Chelsea between 20212 and 2013 winning the Europa League with them...

I was very disheartened by the news as I liked Frank Lampard as a player. His managerial skills to me were also good, just unlucky. Good luck Frank!!!
