The Spanish National team has been at the topflight of world football for years."La roja" as they are called is with no doubt, one of the football teams in the world to make the game look as beautiful as it is presently.
Between 2008-2012,They were almost nearly invisible, sweeping home three major trophies which include, the 2008 Euros, the 2010 world cup in South Africa and retaining their European Championship title at the 2012 Uefa Euro final in kyiv.
Link Spain at the the 2008 Euro final.
The Euros in 2008,hosted by Austria and Switzerland presented an opportunity for a number of young Spanish players to showcase their creativity on the pitch.the likes of Andres Iniesta, Sérgio Ramos,Cesc Fábregas,David Silva,Santi Carzola, Fernando Torres who scored the winning goal at the final aginst Germany, David villa who came out as the top goal scorer of the tournament and Xavi Hernández who was named the best player of the tournament,Among others.
The team led by head coach Vicente del Bosque was laden with promising young stars and they went ahead to win the trophy ahead of other European giants and make the Spaniards proud.
The 2010 world cup in South Africa created another avenue for la roja to show their brilliance and did so once again.
Though the first group game against Switzerland was 1-0 a lose,They managed to come out better, winning 2-1 and 2-0 against Chile and Honduras respectively.
The knockout stage was made a success by goals from David villa against Portugal and Paraguay at the Round of 16 and quarter finals Respectively.
It was Carles Puyol in the semifinals against Germany who headed in a goal following a corner to score the only goal of the match and secure a first World cup final for the Spanish National team.
The final against Netherlands wasn't a very smooth one for Spain as it was drawn to an extra Time. Barcelona's Andres Iniesta came to the rescue when he scored the only goal of the match with a sublime finish, following an assit from Fernando Torres to win the world cup for Spain.
At the 2012 Euros, the world champions led again by head coach Vicente del Bosque showed once again their qualities, beating Italy 4-0 in the finals at the Olympic stadium in Kyiv and secure their third Uefa Euro title(most successful Team alongside Germany on 3 titles each),becoming the first team to win two consecutive European Championships and the first team to win three consecutive major tournaments – Euro 2008, the 2010 world cup and Euro 2012.that victory was the greatest margin of victory in the history of the European Championship Finals.
The Euro 2016 in France wasn't favourable for Spain, who lost two of their three group games against Croatia and Italy and only managed 3 points with a win against Turkey but where eventually eliminated at the Round of 16 by Italy.
EURO is here again with Spain fighting for a spot in the round of 16 alongside Sweden,Poland and Slovakia in Group E.
Luis Enrique's side looks energetic and has similar young potentials as those of 2008.
Will they make it to the round of 16??
Are they one of the favourites to lift the trophy at Wembley in July??
