The final Premier League match of the weekend saw Spurs travel to Aston Villa and a momentous moment as I managed to watch every game.
Having dubbed this "The Battle of the Liars", it was a surprise to see the teams as per what the 2 managers said they'd be with the only surprise being Gareth Bale on the bench. Having been their star man lately, for Bale not to start was unexpected.
So with no Bale or Son Heung-min, Spurs lacked the energy that I'd expected to see before the match. We saw quite the opposite. There seemed to be little to no energy anywhere in the Spurs team, particularly in the defence with none of the defenders seemingly wanting to track runs or generally run at all! This made it all too easy for Villa to get into the Spurs box with the chances falling to the wrong players - Matt Targett getting their best chance of the half.
So for Spurs to take the lead with their 1st real chance was harsh on Villa. A poor clearance from Martinez allowed Moura to win the ball, he linked up well with Kane before Moura squared the ball for Vinicius to tap it in from 6 yards. ⚽ 1-0 ⚽ to Spurs.
Despite the goal, the highlight of the 1st half for me was the commentators discussing whether this outfit was a onesie or pyjamas.

I'm voting pyjamas.
The 2nd half followed the pattern of the 1st with a typical Spurs performance. Villa had all the possession but didn't really threaten much with Spurs trying to hit on the break with Moura and Kane looking the pick of the bunch. A totally pointless slide tackle by Matty Cash on Kane in the area was typically manipulated by Kane into a foul resulting in a penalty. Kane despatching it with great confidence. ⚽ 2-0 ⚽ to Spurs. For all the possession Villa had, they never really looked like scoring with Kane and Moura providing the quality that decided the match.
