It was a very disappointing game from Liverpool in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid. When the quarter-finals draws was announced and Liverpool paired with Real Madrid, I had hoped that Liverpool will take the opportunity to revenge their losing to Zidane's men in the 2018 finals but with what happened last night, I don't know what to expect anymore.
In Liverpool's last premier game against Arsenal, they played very well and eventually won by three goals to nil. Owing to this, I expected them to come into champions league game with that winning mindset and mentality but no, they came as victims, they played as though they were the underdogs. Quite disappointing of them. To start with, the line-up especially in the midfield was not impressive at all; Wijnaldum and Naby Keita isn't a perfect fit.
Real Madrid appeared to have too much for Liverpool as Vinicius Junior shined in the game, winning the man of the match award eventually. The game ended in 3-1 scoreline in favour of Real Madrid. The first goal was scored nicely by Vinicius Jr in the 27th minutes while the second was being scored by Asensio. So, the first-half ended with 2-0 victory for the Spanish side.
Coming into the second-half, Liverpool impressed in the opening minutes and this led to them scoring their first goal in 57th minute. This goal was being scored by Mohammed Salah who was under-performing in the game and the goal was assisted by Diogo Jota. The goal which was a bit controversial was then checked by the VAR and Salah was confirmed to being onside. After the goal, Liverpool did possess the ball more and for minutes, I thought they were going to turn things around but it appeared we didn't have their dramatic-comeback-Liverpool again.
All hope of Liverpool playing a tie not to mention winning was dashed and Vinicius scored his second goal. With that Madrid sealed their victory and we just have to wait and see what the second-leg holds for Liverpool.
