This is one World Cup match I will not forget in a hurry as the whole outcome of the fixture remains evergreen in my memory. It was really an interesting game that involved my country Nigeria and Argentina. This was in the 2014 FIFA Men's World Cup and it was during the group stage particular the last group stage game.
Note that, this game was played on Wednesday 25th June, 2014 and I watched it sitting in my room with the aid of the television.
After the qualification stage, Nigeria was being matched in the same group with Argentina hence their clash in that particular World Cup competition. The particular game that was so interesting and competitive was their second-leg where they played 2-3 in favour of Argentina. The Nigeria team also known as the Super Eagles deserved to win because they were at their best but unfortunately Rojo of Argentina denied the Super Eagles victory.
The line up of the Super Eagles was as follows:
Vincent Enyeama - GK
Oshaniwa
Omeruo
Joseph Yobo
Ambrose
John Obi Mikel
Babatunde (Substituted for Uchebo)
Onazi
Ahmed Musa
Odemwingie (Substituted forNwofor)
Emenike
While Argentina had their lineup to be;
- Romero
- Rojo
- Garay
- Fernández
- Zabaleta
- Mascherano
- Gago
- Lionel Messi (Substituted for Álvarez)
- Angel Di María
- Gonzalo Higuaín (Substituted forBiglia)
- Kun Agüero (Substituted for Lavezzi)
And that was the lineup for both teams excluding other substitutes.
The match started on a very good note and we expected to watch something better than the previous. However, only three minutes into the game, Lionel Messi scored a nice goal. And the most interesting part was that Ahmed Musa equalized for Nigeria just 80 secs after Messi scored for Argentina. With this the scoreline became in 1-1.
However, Lionel Messi did put his side ahead again when he scored Enyeama with a curly free kicl thereby changing the scoreline. Similarly, Ahmed Musa scored a second goal to equalize making the scoreline to be 2-2. There was so much uproar when this happened and Ahmed Musa was being seen as a saviour for Nigeria.
Pressure kept mounting for both sides as only a winner would be announced. The hope of winning the game by Nigeria was lost when Rojo scored the third goal. I felt really sad but good thing was that Nigeria did impress. However, both Argentina and Nigeria progressed to the next Round of the WORLD CUP.!

Nigeria actually did well with this fixture, didn't make it easy at all. Ahmed Musa was quite in the spotlight.
Thank you for your participation.
