QUESTION

What are the key qualities would you look for in a goalkeeper?

For a goalkeeper, different managers have their mind on different attributes that they want to see. Some consider height, others want reflexes and so on. If you had to sign a goalkeeper, what are some vital attributes you would like to see aside the goal saving ability?

Any reward that will be received on this will go to help boost our community steem power.

Every manager will like his goalkeeper to good with his feet.

As a manager, the first quality I like about a goalkeeper is his ability to communicate with his defenders. Take a look at Donarunma of PSG in the just concluded Euro 2021, what do you think made him keep more clean sheets in the tournament, that's his ability to communicate with both Bonucci and Chiellini. The thumbs up and high fives boosts the confident of both the goalkeeper and the defense as a whole.

Secondly, Many might be going for height, both to me height doesn't actually matter in choosing a goalie. His passing prowess will be second to put into consideration. Look at a coach like Pep Guardiola, he never jokes with goalkeepers that can use their feet. The likes of Manuel Nuer, Victor Valdes, Ederson etc were some of the goalkeepers he used because their passing rate is so high.

Another quality I will consider in a goalkeeper is his Reflexes ability. When it comes to reflexes, am really impressed with Spanish Manchester united Goalkeeper David Degea, he is really good when it comes to reflexes. Although he isn't quite good with his feet, but his ability to reflect to balls is really amazing and quite recommendable.

Excellent points. Would be great to have a goalkeeper of that caliber. Thanks

These are great attributes you are looking for here friend. Thank you.

Good reflexes will be my pick. Nothing beats good goalkeeping than having good reflexes.

I admire De Gea a lot as he is able to react fast to situations and make a good save.

Aside from textbook saves, a goalkeeper's ability to react to situations is paramount to a clean sheet

The other options I will look for are good ball control and passing. We have witnessed awfully lots of instances where goalkeepers give the ball to the opponent to score.

Reflexes are quite important for great saves
Great point.

As a manager, the first attribute I like about a goalkeeper is his passing prowess. That's why I really admire the goalkeeper of Manchester city Ederson. His passing skills is second to none.

Secondly, the goalkeeper's reflexes capabilities. I give that One to Arsenal Goalkeeper, Ramsdale, the guy is really good in the post when it comes to reflexes

Good points raised thanks.

Goal keeping job is one of the most difficult task a player has in the pitch. It is difficult to keep a clean sheet especially when you play against a top side and having someone like Robert Lewandowski as an opposition, reading of the game as a goal keeper counts the most. Mistakes happens in football and those mistakes lead to goal but the ability of the goal keeper to read the game and keep composure matters a lot. Mandy tries in this aspect and i admire him so much.

Nice one. Thanks

Goal keepers play very important roles in football matches as they keep the ball out of the net. This shows that goal keepers need to have some qualities in order to be very good. Personally, i would go in for a goal keeper who has alot of confidence when keeping. In addition to that, quick reflexes is also very important. The goal keeper should also be able to control the defence infront of him. Should have a high passing accuracy and should also be able to take split seconds decision.

That is a great question. I think, I would say, an eye for the game, I know that we're not going to win or lose games with this keeper, but it's the ability to get the team going and to get out of sticky situations, and you know that one of the things, as a keeper, if you're in that position, and you get a bad goal, that you don't really deserve, I think it's knowing that that's not going to change how you have to play the rest of the game.

If you can get out of it and if you have the courage to do it, and the knowledge of how to do it, and the ability to do it. That would be my first thing.

The other thing is an ability to stay composed, to really have the balls to tell the players that's not acceptable, and they have to react to it. If the rest of the team and the player is not really responding, and I have that ability to tell them it's not going to help you. It's not going to help you if you don't take it to the next level and say, we need to come back on this, we have to be better, because it's not going to get any better if you don't react.
