Some people may attribute it to the environment, some will say is the difference in quality of payers, other will say is the couch in charge and others will say its the mindset of the player.
Well I think it all pans down to the player in question. A perfect example is Paul Pogba who plays one good game at United once in a blue moon and doesn't seem to have any bad game at France with the national team. Well one might say he is partnering with Kante that is why he is so good and at united he doesn't have the likes of kante to give the full confidence to play like that. I for one think its all down to Paul's mindset.
At France he trusts the players he is playing with because they are filled with super stars that seem to never loose concentration in a game. That forces him to give his all but at united its a different scenario.
Well another suprising example is Salah. Salah as we all know him plays so well at Liverpool but for this Afcon games it seems we only hear little about him. With Pogba's situatiob we can say its the opposite for salah as he has the quality at Liverpool but doesn't have that at Egypt. Don't get me wrong, am not saying at Egypt there is not quality but the quality at Liverpool is among the best in the world.
So for me i believe its all down to the quality around the team for some players and for some players its down to trust.

To get the best out of this question i think one will have to tackle it with an eagle eye on a birds eye view.
First of all i will say personalty counts. We have just a few players who dont have this problem. And the reason why most players have this problem is 1. Playing System 2.Quality
Playing System: Playing system is the tactical approach of a team to a game. When players get use to a particular system it becomes well adopted and it tends to bring out the best out of the players. Comparing club level to international level players are more use to club system style of player as compared to the International level.
Quality: No club has won trophies without quality, every team needs quality in order to stand tall. Taking a look at club football where they scout and spend big on players to intentional level where you just use what is available.
Every great player needs great players around him to succeed, no player in the world can do it all alone. At club level players get the chance to play with quality players which itself is a huge motivation to the player but at international level players dont get to play with the quality they have available at club level which hinders their performance.

This question is not so easy to answer, because I believe the answer would be: “It is down to the players’ personality and to the style of play”.
I would say that if your player is really focused, very determined, aggressive and wants to be at the top in the Premier League, in his club team then he will perform well because his main goal is to win. This player will win games for his team. He will play well and be more or less good on the pitch. I think he will be in the top 5.
But if your player is not focused, very determined or aggressive, but just has good technical skills and if his team is leading the league, he will try to keep the lead but he won’t really fight for the title. So he will only try to improve his performance when his team is already leading. And in these cases he won’t be so determined and he won’t win.
An example is Gareth Bale. He is an aggressive and fast player. He is very determined and focused and really wants to play well for his team and for his country. He plays well, he is very determined and gives everything. He is technically great, so he can be an amazing player in his country. In this moment, in this team, he is one of the best players in the world.
But, in Real Madrid he is not good at all. He is not aggressive, he is not determined. In Real Madrid he doesn’t play well because he doesn’t want to fight for the title. He doesn’t want to fight for the title of Player Of The Year in his club team. So, he does not play well. He is inconsistent. Sometimes he is the best player in the world but sometimes he is not even in the top 5.

This is a very interesting question. Everyone will have different opinions on why players Perform better in their teams than on international duties.
In my opinion, it's the players that surround them on the field. In order to perform well, the players that play around you play a factor. In the club teams, the players spend more time training together so they understand themselves better as a team. And on the field, when you play as a team, you contribution to the match is clearly seen.
Compared to the club teams, players spend less time with his national team mates. So the training with the team is less and this affects their performance on the field. So most players Perform better at the club teams than in their national teams.

Well in my own opinion situation like this is divided into different ways and it's doesn't always depends on the player.
An Instance where a player plays very well for his club and then plays poorly for his country national team.
To me a situation like this is might be either the players fault or the national team style of play.
We all know some players are not passionate especially when they play for their country, they tend to play safe, so that they won't get injured.
Sometimes it's mostly not the players fault, the national team might be having some internal problems from the FA of the country or the coach might not be able to manage the team. Another problem is that the players might not have that connection they have with players in their club. So it will be hard for them to connect well with each other in the national team, and we all know a team with connection can't get any good results or performance.

In my own opinion I would say the factor behind a better performance in club level compared to their international level is the pay (contract) and for recognization.
Am not surprised seeing a player performing better in his club level because the pay is quite unbelievable. Getting your salary week in week out will be a big motivation in making a player perform more in his club team compared to his international team.
Another factor is the recognition that is put into the club football compared to internationally.
A player will be comfortable playing a better football in the highest level that is playing a club football. And the trophies involved in club level cannot be compared to the international which is played annually.

This is a nice question and wonder where this community pick their questions from each day.
I will start by saying some players perform better at the club level better than International stage due the facility in store at the club side. I as prayer can not give 100% to my country when it comes to fitness level because if i end up picking injury, they might treat me as i deserve but at the club level, all equipment are made available.
Regular training with team mates. Football is not one man show. Players at the club level train everyday due to their weekly or mid-week games compared to international level whereby is once in a month or sometimes you are not being called up.
The managers also matter. Every manager have their final decisions and they decide who plays and who sit on the bench. At the club level, if you don't play in the league, Champion league is there, europa league is there, FA Cup is to be played for and even Caroboa Cup compared to the International level where everyone fight for the first team shirt and mangers want result, he will put the ones he thinks will give him instead result

For me I think the reason is that most of this players has teammate that they have built understanding with in their club side. In their club side they come to training every day and play with particular sets of players, but in their country they only come once in a while to play with teammate they have not played with for a while. One player cannot make a team, and it takes time to build understanding. Someone like Mo Salah is struggling in the Egyptian team because understanding with his teammates has not being built. No matter how good a player is he still needs to be around people that understands him, and since they didn't grow up together they need time to build this understanding. You can take players to camp two weeks to a competition and expect them to do well.

I think the motivation behind players playing better in their club team compared to internationally is just because of the paycheck. In club level, a player signs a contract which means if he performs better his paycheck increases compared to internationally, where every player got to receive the same pay regardless of your position or status
