This disease, Down syndrome otherwise called trisomy 21 is a mental disorder occurring by a number of factors. Due to defect in the chromosome at the time of conception. The chromosome affected is chromosome 21, hence the name trisomy 21.

This disorder could last for some years or in many cases is usually lifelong.

Normal chromosome copy is two, but people with down syndrome have 3 copies.

This disorder causes delayed physical and mental development, and could also lead to heart related problems.

physical characteristics could be noticed at birth. Features such as narrowed and slanting eye-slits, thick tongue, stubby and depressed nose, broad hands is noticed.

From the onset society hasn't been friendly to these special set of people.
Stigmatization and cruelty has always been the attitude towards people living with down syndrome.

A personal experience is that of a classmate in secondary school, who had this disorder, he was often bullied and mocked, it was very sad.
People avoided him like a plague and refused to share a sit with him.

Worst of all are parents who warn their children to stay away from him. The very people who stop this unfairness and critism.

I really feel that people with down syndrome should be given a chance to life for they normal humans for crying out loud and should be treated normally as every other person.

We never know the potentials these sets of people possess when we keep excluding them.

They could be great agents of change in their sphere of influence.
