Showcasing Rexxie - Splinterlands share your battle weekly challenge

in hive-13323 •  5 years ago

This is my entry into @splinterlands share your battle weekly challenge, which this week was to showcase Rexxie from the Earth Splinter.

I decided to wait for the very beginning of a new season before attempting this, as my Rexxie is only up to L4 and using him would have compromised the more rational tank choices!

It took me 4 battles to win with Rexxie, but I think this winning battle showcases him quite nicely.

The Rule Set

  • Silenced Summoners - I tend to think of Earth as giving the least gain, so this was well suited!
  • Only odd monsters - Well, Rexxie is 'odd' and so are a couple of 'inspirers' which I wanted to use to make the most of his already large attack, with that trample.

The Line Up

Screenshot 20200301 at 18.48.57.png

  1. Creeping Ooze - the rationale here is that unless one has something to soak up some of the damage from the other team, Rexxie might well die
  2. Rexxie - he still has to be played near the front, he is a melee monster after all!
  3. Brownie - for the inspire to give Rexxie plus 1 attack
  4. Screeching vulture - TBH honest one of my favourite cards and crucial, along with Rexxie to my winning this battle.
  5. Flying pixie - for another plus 1 attack for Rexxie, also I figured she would be good protection against snipe attacks, and one snipe attacker did miss her, so job done!

Did my strategy work?

Well basically YES - to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 screeching vulture takes out the opponent's goblin straight off the blocks, crucially his sneak attack misses my flying pixie
  • Round 2 - I lost my creeping ooze, but my opponent lost their second sneak attack.
  • Round 3 - I lose my mushroom to my opponent's snipe attack.
  • Round 4 - by this time Rexxie is in pole position, I lose the flying pixie, but the combination of Rexxie and Vulture take out Lord Anus, and crucially with Rexxie's trample, he takes out the Tree in the same round.
  • Round 5 to the end - now my opponent's just left with his Spirit, and it's all over.

How important was Rexxie?

I think it was a combination of him and the vulture, but probably more crucially my opponent was relying too heavily on sneak and snipe which meant his attack wasn't focused on Rexxie.

Do I use Rexxie often?

Well TBH this challenge is the first time I've used Rexxie in a very long time - my default tank of choice is Lord Anus, or for Earth the Golem, both of which just have much better defence.

I think the best use for Rexxie would be with a high mana 'melee monsters can attack from anywhere' rule set - if you combine him with the dragon splinter and an inspire card, that gives even a Level 4 Rex 7 attack, and with trample, that's potentially 14 damage in one attack. Not bad!

He'd also be better off in the middle, given his lack of shields and relatively low health compared to other tanks.

I still have a soft spot for him, however!

Sort Order:

I use Rexxie a fair bit with some healing as he can have a big impact. Mine is a lower level though. I do have Nectar Queen now though, so she may be better if there is enough manna. But maybe I'm getting wrong.

Nectar Queen, that's a new one on me! Will check that out.

I generally find something with the shield ability is best in the front, so it gets half damage.

It also depends on how quick the other team is - with something like Rexxie I'd play a low mana sacrifice card first, that way it allows time for the healing to actually kick in before he's wiped out by three quicker attacks in a row (because the sacrifice soaks up one of them).

However a shield card is much better, explains why Lorn A is valued so highly.

Hey there! Welcome to the party!
Honestly, it's quite nice that I get entries evenly spread out over the 7 days. It makes it easier for me to give better upvotes. 😍

You're not the first person to mention they were waiting for the season to end to do this challenge. 😎

Awe. 🥰 Deep down inside it appears all of us have a soft spot for Rexxie.

Thanks for taking the time to post and share!
See ya next week... if the challenge's not too hard. 😉

See ya next week... if the challenge's not too hard.

Well, it's still the beginning of the season, so it should be fine!

However, I guess that also depends on what card(s) you pick!
