These days we stated our final year research project. On this week we have to present proposal presentation. It will be conducted on 4th march.
For that I selected factors affecting to post harvesting losses among beans farmers from farm gate to market place. I plan to conduct the research among beans farms in Balangoda Ds division. Balangoda, my living is very famous for beans. Because of the unique taste and believability most of the consumers consume beans which cultivated in Balangoda area, mainly Kalthota, wekioya and Pallebadda.
I will select 250 farmers as a sample. Simple random sampling techniques hope use to collect required sample to minimize the errors. In my research main objectives are investigate the main factors affect for post harvesting losses, identify the practices still apply to minimize post harvesting losses and practices they have to improve to minimize them.
From the cultivar, during handing, during transport, during storage can get as main stages post harvesting losses could occur. By applying corrective measures, we can minimize those losses. For example, in the cultivar through pest attach, through unfavorable climatic conditions and through excessive use of chemical fertilizer mainly cause for huge post harvesting losses.
Physically, chemically and mechanically we can manage those pests attract. Specially we can apply integrated pest management practices to effectively control the pest attract by considering finical side as well as healthiness of the harvest.
During handling we can apply hygienic practices to maintain quality of the products and we can select matching package for each item to minimize physical damages which occur during transport because of unqualify packaging materials. For example, for beans should not use mesh bags. It will cause to huge physical damages. Likewise, I hope to do good study and I hope to give new experience for beans farmers by measuring their post harvesting losses how to affect for income variations.
