Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. It's the 85th edition now. There is nothing else going on in the Cricket World, other than 2025 ICC Champions Trophy! Ten matches are already over, and we are almost in the final scenarios of Group stages matches. So, let's see what's happening!
Well, I think you already know about the overview, and let's get into the business immediately.
Out of 12 Group stage matches, 10 were already completed; unfortunately, three were completely washed away.
As I said earlier, the 08 teams are in two groups, and here is the current standing.
ICC Champions Trophy, 2025 - Points Table
Group A
1st Match, New Zealand vs Pakistan - New Zealand won by 60 runs. Kiwis registered 320/5, with hundreds from Will Yung, and Tom Lathem. Starting with a lazy intent, the hosts were all out for just 260 runs.
2nd Match, Bangladesh vs India - As suggested India won the match easily by 06 wickets. With the help of a magnificent hundred from Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali, Ban could still add 228 on the board. India sensibly chased it, with the hundred from Gill.
5th Match, Pakistan vs India - One of the heated matches, turned out to be one-sided once again India winning by 06 wickets. Pakistan's 241 runs were chased by India with 8 overs remaining. Kohli registered his 82nd international century.
6th Match, Bangladesh vs New Zealand - New Zealand won by 5 wickets. Bangladesh's 239 was not enough to defend, even after a good balling start from them. Rachin Ravindra led from the from with a century in the run chase.
9th Match, Pakistan vs Bangladesh - abandoned due to rain (No toss)
Group B
3rd Match, South Africa vs Afghanistan - South Africa won by 107 runs. The match was almost one-sided with a promising total of 315/6 by Proteas. Many chipped in well, especially with the hundred from Rickelton. Afghan fell for 208 runs.
4th Match, England vs Australia - This became a high-voltage match with England posting 358 runs batting first. Ben Duckett was the hero scoring 165 runs. Anyway, the Aussies did chase even after losing Head and Smith early. Josh Inglish was the savior with a hundred, along with Short, Marnus, and Carey.
7th Match, Australia vs South Africa - abandoned due to rain (No toss)
8th Match, Afghanistan vs England - The best match of the tournament so far, resulting in the elimination of England from the race. Afghanistan batted first and put in a total of 325/7. Ibrahim Zadran played one of the greatest knock scoring 177 off 146 balls. England didn't start the chase well, but Root carried the hope til the end. The match was bounced between the two teams till the end, but the Afghans held their nerves to win by 08 runs.
- 10th Match, Afghanistan vs Australia - No result - due to rain
So, the hosts, Pakistan eliminated early along with Bangladesh and England. New Zealand, India, and Australia have already sealed their spots in the semis.
Australia's two games were washed away, and with today's results, South Africa has more edge for the next spot. The remaining match is between England, and South Africa, and for Afghanistan to qualify, England has to win by at least 207 runs if they bat first. Or chase down a 300+ target in 11.1 overs.
