Farewell Grand ma | Rest In Peace

Well, it's been a tough few weeks back here in the home. With some major changes in life, life moved on. But 2 weeks back my grandmother passed away, at the age of 93. She, the mother of my mother, was the last of our four grandparents. She was the heart of our family with 4 generations, centered around her.

Born in 1930, she lived through almost a century witnessing a great many historical events locally and internationally. It was never an easy life for her, having 08 children amidst all the hardships. But her life journey is evidence of the true spirit and endurance of Sri Lankan women.

There are thousands of stories to tell about her humble and kind behavior, as she was very close to us and to everyone in the village. She had preserved a pillow and a bathing tub which were used when I was a baby.

The most amazing thing about her is, that she was active and in good condition until the last 3 months. She could do all her work on her own, proving that age is just a number. But from May, her health took a sudden collapse. First, she couldn't walk, just like half paralyzed. Gradually, she couldn't eat and only liquid materials were given and the amount she took was reduced day by day.

It was a stressful and tough period for all the family members to see that she was struggling in the last few weeks. But everyone was there with her. I was with her at the last moment.

The ceremony was held as best as we could to honor her. Hundreds of people came from many areas, as she was so close to most of them. It was a tragic moment specially for my mother, but she held up, as my grandmother liver her life to the fullest.

She will be living with us forever, despite the loss we had.
