Weekly CRICKET Review - LXii | LPL

Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,

You already know I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. It's the 62nd edition now.

After a pretty exciting and exhausting World Cup and pre-season, players, and staff are having a small break from international Cricket, the Lanka Premier League, the Major League Cricket tournament,the Women’s ASIA Cup, and the West Indies tour of England. So, let's see what's going on!

Jaffna Kings have done it 4 times out of 5

• I didn’t say much about LPL as I have already given up the hopes for the Men’s Sri Lankan Cricket team for many reasons. LPL is another propogando that started three days after the T20 World Cup final.

• Normally, a domestic competition's main goal is to find new faces and groom the youngsters(Pavan Ratnayaka, Siraz, Kroozepulle, Ashen Bandara, etc). But here I don’t know what the hell is happening. There were many disappointing gestures from the players, bold moves from captains, and captaincy changes in the national team.

• Anyway, there have been some exciting innings, performances, and matches in the tournament.

• Out of 5 teams, here’s what the point table looked like after the group stage. The first four moved to the playoffs.

• As the top team Galle Marvels won the Qualifier 01 against Jaffna Kings quite easily and moved to the finals. Kandy Falcons won the Eliminator between Colombo Strikers by just 2 wickets remaining.

• Anyway the Qualifier 02 was a bit intense. Batting first Jaffna put a total of 187/7 with a century from Mendis. Kandy did try their best but no one took the responsibility until the end. Ramesh Mendis and Pawan tried harder until the last ball and lost by just 01 run.

• So, the final was between Galle Marvels vs Jaffna Kings in Premadasa. Galle put a total of 184/6 batting first with a brilliant performance from Bhanuka Rajapaksha, 82 off 36 deliveries. But chasing it was not so hard for the Jaffna as Mendis and Rossouw put on a sensational show. After Nissanka went in the first ball, the duo themselves chased down the target in just 15.4 over, and becoming the champions for the fourth time!

• Pink Cap for Most Runs: Tim Seifert (400 runs for Galle Marvels)
• Red Cap for Most Wickets: Shadab Khan (17 wickets for Colombo Strikers)
• Emerging Player of the Season: Chamindu Wickramasinghe

Womens Asia Cup T20, 2024

• 8 teams will be played for the Asian glory in Sri Lanka at the 9th edition. The four full members of the Asian Cricket Council, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, qualified automatically. Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, and Thailand also came through as the semi-finalists in the 2024 ACC Women's Premier Cup.
