Every year since World Water Day has been celebrated every year since 1993 march 22 to make people more aware of the importance of water, the primary source of all life on earth, and to raise awareness about the current global water crisis and motivate people around the world to conserve water resources in the pursuit of sustainable development goals. Is celebrated all over the world. The theme of this year's World Water Day is (Valuing Water).
The proposal was made in 1922 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Promotion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Water resources are a human right.
The United Nations estimates that 2.1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe drinking water.
About 700 children die every day due to water pollution and lack of proper sanitation.
Around 80% of people in urban areas around the world do not have access to safe drinking water.
There is a risk to Sri Lanka as well.
It would be an irreparable mistake to further delay the protection of water resources.
The drinking water of 663 million people in the world is not safe for health.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of deaths each year is about 842,000.
It is also important to educate the public on the strategies required to achieve the goal of providing safe drinking water to all by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced in 2015.
The total volume of water in the world is 1386 million cubic kilometers.
97.5% of it is seawater.
Freshwater is 2.5%.
More than half of freshwater is made up of polar ice caps (glaciers).
Another part is found in snow, groundwater, soil water, atmospheric water vapor, in trees, in animal bodies, in lakes, ponds, swamps, and streams.
From this point of view, fresh water that can be used for drinking and daily needs is found in rivers, streams, wells, ponds and lakes.
That amounts to about 0.29% of the world's water.
How small is that?
These are some of the major water related issues in Sri Lanka.
Water pollution and water scarcity are also key.
The people themselves are fully responsible for these.
The main form of water pollution is the release of various pollutants into waterways.
Some of the major causes of water scarcity are:
- Drying of water springs
- Failure to take action to conserve water
- Water use deficiencies
It is too late to implement a comprehensive water management policy that includes water conservation, proper water use as well as water pollution prevention and to change the attitude of the school child towards it.
Pure water is second only to the mother.
Water is the lifeblood of all living things.
At a time when the entire world is in the throes of a severe drinking and consumption water crisis, it is a vital mission to redefine our past water management heritage and work to conserve and sustain our water resources.
In order to protect our natural water resources, the active participation of the entire population is required. Let us make World Water Day a great opportunity to make the community aware of this and to implement a comprehensive program.

@prasadi
Thanks for the comment and It's really a massive deforestation right now. If this situation continues, such a water shortage may occur.
