Last Thursday morning, my big sis woke me up saying that she is having a muscle pain around her chest and shoulders. She said the same thing before going to bed last night, so I suggested her to take some medicine. Since we were living in our boarding place, we didn’t know any doctors nearby. So we thought of going to the OPD of Nawaloka hospital. The doctor from the OPD suggested us to do some tests and the reports hadn’t turned not so good. The doctor got alarmed after examining the reports and I got more than alarmed when she wanted my big sis to be admitted at the very moment!
Our parents were in our hometown and it was only big sis and myself living in the Colombo at the moment. I tried to explain the situation to the doctor but she asked whether I can’t manage it by myself. My mind shouted “Ofc I can’t! I can only shop and workout by myself, I can’t do any other thing alone”. But I knew that it was not a time to kid myself with those silly excuses, so I followed the doctor’s instruction. I think she also felt bad for me as she explained me in the easiest way possible about what’s wrong and what should be done. While my big sis was at ETU, I was asked to follow the adminission procedures, and I was quite confused not knowing what exactly to be done. Then the nurse who was at the OPD saw me with the admission application on my hand and she was so kind to me as she directed me towards the cashier.
I think I confused the staff as much as I was confused myself by a 21 year old being the guardian of a 26 year old. Then the doctors reassured me that there is nothing critical but admission is needed for further observations and that made me feel little ease. We were at a different ward until the results of our pcr turned out, and we were pretty much alone. So we could watch some couple of movies to get away from boredom as well as that depressing situation.
When the pcr test turned to be negative we were moved to another ward. It was pretty late at night I guess. However, the doctors and nurses started to visit us as soon as we were moved to that ward.
And I was starting to get annoyed when some knocked on the door even at 1 in the morning because I was pretty tired and sleepless by then. So it turned out to be another sleepless night. I was fully dedicated to the hospital stuff those days, and that was the only time that I didn’t even touch my laptop or a single book.
When I felt tired, I enjoyed looking through the balcony because that view was relaxing.
Yet, the good news was that her reports were not so bad, so on the second day we consulted doctor whether we can get discharged her and do the further examinations at Galle bcz our parents would be there as well. Since there was nothing alarming, the doctors also approved the discharge. So we came home on Friday night.
I felt like a huge burden was lifted off from me, as soon as I stepped into home. And relived as well because my big sis was feeling okay by then. I had never felt home as sweet as what I felt on that moment. That is mainly because I could be that spoiled youngest again not a guardian! And my big suggested me to think of it as a vacation and a treat for our health amidst our hectic daily schedules.
