This is my second post in the community. While reading @damindu's post about School life, it brought back my memories of my own childhood. I received very few responses to my previous one, but I’ve decided to write another regardless.

When we were kids, we loved watching cartoons. One of my favourites was Asterix. Although we all knew it as “සූර පප්පා”.
I am sure that, if you are a true fan, you’ll remember something right away.
This was published on 29th October 1959. It’s unbelievable as it was 65 years ago. Still, this telecasts on Sirasa TV. I saw it last Saturday by chance. Later, due to its high popularity, it was translated into 111 languages.
The story is about the adventures of a village of Gauls. They have a magic potion which temporarily gives superhuman strength. Because of this King Caesar couldn’t defeat the village. Every time he arrived with his army, he lost the battle.
We saw this as a sinhala-dubbed cartoon. Actually, we should truly thank the media division of Sirasa TV for doing such a great job. Especially for Gaminda Priyaviraj and Suneth Chithrananda. Without them, I don’t think it would have become such a memorable cartoon for us.
Among the characters there were some memorable ones, like ජිම් පප්පා, වෙද පප්පා, චූටි කුකූ, මල් කුමාරි, කෑකෝ පප්පා, සාදාරණ කොටා. What was your favourite one?
So, that’s it for today. Thanks for reading..
I’ll meet you with a new post soon.
Historical data gathered from Asterix on Wikipedia
Most of the children's favorite cartoon is Sura Pappa. Even though we are adults, we used to watch it with our kids.
