Yesterday we went on a small trip to see baby elephants in udawalawa elephant transit home. Ten years back, I went there and I remember that I was not this much excited about the journey. I think this time gap made me a person who is obssessed with animals. My heart beats faster, when it comes to an animal.
It was about 9.30 am in the morning when we reached udawalawa. Both I and my sister were very excited about this, as she is also a mini version of myself. Praveen joined us at Thanamalwila, who came from colombo to join with us. We stopped at a place in Udawalawa for a tea break where an wild elephant hangs around. Wild life department has set a baord displaying it's prohibited to give foods for wild animals. Therefore we did not give anything to him, but enjoyed a lot his view.
This is him
Then we headed to our main destination, the elephant transit home. There are three feeding times, when it's open for visitors. There we can see how they feed for baby elephants, sitting in a seperate place. Those baby elephants are soo adorbale with their cute, baby behaviors.
That was a heart warming moment for me, to see them. That was so upsetting, When it comes to the point that they have no mom to hug, teach or may be cuddle them in the night. They are too little to live alone without a mom. Anyhow they have survived to be grown up and to be a proud big elephant. I saw only one grown up elpehant, who was hardly walking with his artificial
Leg and created a grief in the enviorenment.
Once they are fed, they have to go to the same place where they were. We saw a beautiful lake behind and I think that is the plave where they bathe. Even though Wild life conservation department is showing so many issues on their duties they deserve a big salute for this, for saving these beautiful precious lives!
