Do you know this bird? Any guesses? We saw this bird in a shrub at Sellakatharagama. It was a giant bird with a yellowish big beak. If you remember, a few weeks ago I wrote about Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill which is a little bit similar to this bird.

But the new bird is pretty bigger than him and there was another part attached to his beak (Casque). This bird is about 2 feet in length. I think you can imagine how big he is. He didn't show any fear when I move closer but on other hand, I was afraid as he had a very large bill. But for the villagers this bird was normal.
After spending some time googling finally I was able to find his name.
This is also a Hornbill කෑදැත්තා, which is famous as Malabar pied hornbill in English. In Sinhala this is පොරෝ කෑදැත්තා. Please let me know if you use any other name for this bird.
According to Wikipedia Malabar pied hornbills mostly live in Sri Lanka and India. As I mentioned in an early article Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill is native to Sri Lanka. But this Malabar pied hornbill is not. If you interested you can read in detail about this beautiful bird from this article.
Finally, it is 33 000 SP and 2000 SP behind 🐬x7.. I believe I can hit 35K SP within the next two months!
