Keep Remembering Good Memories Until We Meet Again !

Sri Lanka is a small island 432 km in length. I live in Galle, which is located in the southern corner of the country. She lives in the Point of Pedro, the Northern corner of the country. Even though we spent 4 years in the same batch at the university, I got to know her well after we selected the same company.

She is Tharmila Vijayan.. An innocent, cute, and kind-hearted girl who became a cool office partner and friend to me. Even though we spent very few days at the office it self there were so many fun times with her. During the first days, she always gets down from the wrong bus halt. Then she walks a long distance, twice as we suppose to walk. But later we got on the same bus and one day, I forgot the halt and she protected me.

She speaks Tamil. I speak Sinhala. So we had to use English as a common language to communicate. Before COVID third wave, I had plans to visit Kovil with her. I have visited Kovils before but without a proper idea about rituals. I missed this experience due to COVID. But I will get a day to visit and worship Sri Vishnu Kovil Dehiwala.

I have been to Jaffna only once. After 30 years of civil war, we had the opportunity to visit Jaffna without fear and doubt. I have no clear memory of where I visited at Jaffna. I visited Nagadeepa Temple and visited some painful memories of war.

She is also has visited Galle only once. She said she has been to Galle fort and Hikkaduwa.

It is a 474km distance which takes at least 8h minimum. The weather condition, culture, landscape, and everything quite change from North to South. She sent me some beautiful photographs of her surrounding for this article. She is having a large land with even ground. We have coconuts and she has Palm trees as well as coconut.

I have seen palm leave fences during my visit to Jaffna. In the following photo, you can see some of them on the left side of the road.

The population of Jaffna district is 583,378 according to 2012 census and in Galle district, it is 1.059 million. A huge number of people moved out from Nothern province during war season. If my knowledge is correct, Jaffna is developed so fast with modern and perfect infrastructures during the past decade.

I just want to visit again Jaffna and spend few days traveling around the Jaffna.

She said they are cultivating manioc in their lands. Her foods are pretty different from mine. When we were at the office she shares different kinds of Rotties, paneer rice, thosai, and sweets with me. Almost all of them are new to me except thosai. I missed those days.

I wish we could be there together again to activate our early plans. We wanted to go to Kovil, walk around the area of our office, eat submarine, ordering some junk food from Uber Eats.
