Workshops for teachers

I've been a professional teacher for exactly two years now. During this time, I've learned a lot, especially through workshops. I've had the chance to attend many workshops organized by the Zonal Education Office. Typically, we can attend about two workshops per term. I've realized that these workshops are crucial for professional growth.

Before, despite participating in English language competitions since childhood, I didn't understand the process behind the scenes. I never knew how teachers selected students for these competitions or what criteria they used. After winning, we would just move on to the next tournament without knowing much more.

There's a common belief among students and parents that teachers only teach and don't do much else. However, I now understand that besides teaching, a teacher plays many other roles. One crucial aspect is preparing students for English language competitions, which provide them with valuable experiences.

Today, I had the opportunity to attend a workshop on training students for English language competitions . A workshop was conducted by Mrs. Hasanthi Uralage, a resource person from Galle RESC, and Mrs. Malika from RESC Balapitiya. It was a great pleasure to receive guidance from madam Hasanthi. Throughout the workshop, we gained valuable experience in various competitions such as handwriting, recitation, dictation, and drama, and learned how to train students for them.

Additionally, we were provided with morning tea and lunch during the workshop. The entire organization of such events is immensely beneficial for teachers to improve their English language skills further.
