Flashback to My 2020 😍😣😷🤔🤨🙄

2020 is a year like no other. I have many memories on this 366 days. As I organized the contest Recall Memories of 2020 I could put an entry for the contest and therefore I could not conclude my 2020 as a post. So, I decided to make a post here!

Hopes

Genuinely, I had many hopes for 2020. With the format of the numbers, I had a pleasant feeling on the upcoming year at the end of the 2019. 2020 was a year that I so much waited to step in.

I was supposed to pass out of the university in the year 2020. So, I had a dream of finding a good job at the end of 2020. After having a job, I had list of things in my mind to make into real. Also I wanted to travel and spend time with friends as much as possible as this time would never come back. So, 2020 was the dream year that I had in my mind.

First 2 And Half Months

There was not any bad with the first 3 months. I just finished my internship and went back to the university after 6 months. Meeting friends after 6 months was lovely and we had many things to share about our training places as we were trained in different locations.

I was appointed as one of three department representatives by my friends in the department. Therefore I had to spent more time in the university with friends. I had many things to do at that time and I was doing them happily. In January, we had "Yaye Padura" which is a musical event organized by our department annually and we danced till the mid-night with friends.

Then we had a funeral at one of our department friend's home in Kegalle. We visited and spent a night there with department friends. After coming back, we organized a Scrabble Tournament which was the inaugural inter-university scrabble tournament of our university. We had participants from several universities.

We had to present our training experience viva and presentations in the beginning of the year and it went well as we really worked and had a good experience there in the training placement. On the viva day, we received a good feedback from the supervisor and other evaluators in the panel.

We went on a night walk on the last day of January and had dinner outside of the university. Me and my friends, Supun, Supe and Tharindu joined with it. Actually in the evening, we were busy with submitting an assignment and later we put some chits into the envelop containing names of the immediate seniors who was going to leave the university soon. So, we put some farewell messages to them.

After coming back from the university next day, I met my school friends in a café called Iglu Ice Cream. We went on shopping and had a really good time.

I met several friends during this time. I met my male best friend Thanuja after a lot of time. We visit to see our friend Sithi's father who was injured from an accident. As Thanuja got his first job, he gave me a treat. It was not giving a treat actually. I took a treat forcefully from him. 😄

We had an alms-giving at my father's parental home. Always this is a family gathering as everyone of the family comes there on this day every year. In the evening we all went to Galle Dutch Fort by my uncle's van and it was a good time together. We sang songs, played and had many photos.

I had semester 6b examinations then. As we complete 2 subjects from continuous assessments we did not have that much of work load for the examination. We worked together and faced to the end examination well. Then I came home for 2 week vacation.

On February 14th, our girls' gang started a project of wall-art in the school's primary section on a request of one of our teacher. We was very much exited as we could go to school again.😍😍😍 Recalling school memories with real friends was lovely. My friend @rasinkani also participated. We did it for around one week.

On the next day, I went a trip with my department friends. Our destination was Arugambay and we visited several other places on the way. You can see more details on it from this post. Arugam Bay We had good time there after our exams and before our final year commencement.

Then we had a good time in the university and we had much time together. We had an event to organize and it was our seniors' farewell party. It is called Despedida.

We had to decorate the premise and all. We worked till late night. This event happened on 29th of February and we stepped into new month dancing with our close friends.

We had a wedding of one of our friend's brother, who studies in the same university as me from my hometown. We had a great time there after a lot of time. We could not meet for so long therefore it was a good time together.

In the second week of March, we organized an event called ChemECon which is the research symposium of our senior batch of our department. As immediate juniors we organized the whole event. We had many things to do. And gathered many memories.

Corona Fear In The Country

Then came the corona fear. As soon as identifying first few corona patients in the country, government took immediate necessary actions to prevent spreading of the disease in the country. Under this, all the government universities and schools were closed and we came home for 2 weeks. Lol. It last for 6 months. 😅

Lockdown

We just started our new semester and so, we did not had an academic load. We were chilling in the homes as we could not go out due to curfew and corona fear. We had time to spend with our family after a long time. We found our old hobbies and new ones too just to pass time.

I started to draw again and then I found out there is a similar art called Zentangles / Mandala / Doodle. I drew many arts and gifted them to my friends' birthdays. But some gifts still are with me as I could not meet them. 😥

Me and my sister @dasuni tried many new recipes. We made many homemade foods during this time. Everyday a new recipe.

We celebrated Sinhala and Hindu New Year in April and Wesak and Poson Poya days limiting to our own homes. We made foods for the new year and played games with family members. For poya, we made lanterns and other decorations with the participation of our family members.

We tried new patterns for frocks, skirts and others. Also learned crocheting. Tried new bag painting and sewing. Made many handmade things like dream-catchers, wall hangers, paper flowers and vases.

Most valuably, we planted many crops in the garden. It was a trend in the country at that time. Everyone grew and maintained a home garden. We had number of crops. Everyone participated with them.

I joined Steemit in July and it was one of the best things happened in 2020. We @steemceylon participated in #thediarygame season 2. I was in the 25 winners' list and we got the first place in the group category. 😍

My birthday was full of surprises. My school girls' gang came home without letting me know. I had a birthday party after a long time.

Then came the trend of online learning. We had to start learning again. Even projects. Sleepless nights were again came into action. 😴 I had network problems. So I could not participate in the online lectures but downloaded recorded lectures and referred.

After the condition got better, I had several outings with friends. We had a family wedding also. It was a good time after lot of fear and bad time. We thought that things would get better soon.

In September we had to go back to university and my hostel life started with this. My roommates were Sihara and Chathuri from Department of Civil Engineering. We had a good time there though we had a huge academic load.

We had our final year group project viva and presentation and other academic activities like practical and assignments. We were reading to the semester 7 end examinations in the beginning of the October and corona fear rose again in the country after identifying a new cluster. We were sent back to home again. 😶

We had a whole month without any lectures and then started semester 8 online. 😑 Work load was quite higher and students were stressed out with the conditions in the country. But no solution! Therefore we had to do it.

We had to ready for job interviews through online platforms and had several sessions prior to that. We were scheduled to pass out in the December at the beginning of 2020 but at the end, we do not have a schedule now. Hope these things get fine quickly. In the end, we had year end vacation of one week. I spent the whole week at home as I cannot go out with corona threat in the country.

Wish For 2021

I hope things get better quickly with the finding of covid vaccine. The plans that I had in the beginning of 2020 are still same for 2021 as I could not achieved them last year. My wish is a Healthy world without any fear of death. Specially my parents' healthiness and happiness.
