Tech Blog #119 | Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 - Well Rounded but the Processor??

in hive-133716 •  last year

Huawei returns to the flagship smartphone market with its P60 series and Mate60 series. Since they had problems with the Processor supply, Huawei had to use the HiSilicon Kirin 900S processor for like 3 years. And now, Huawei is likely to make a comeback into the Tablet Market.

The MatePad Pro 13.2 brings a sleek and slim design, measuring just 5.5mm in thickness and weighing 580 grams. The back features an elegant brocade fiber design, providing a premium look and feel. The tablet is designed to be portable and comfortable to hold, making it an excellent choice for on-the-go productivity and entertainment. Also it features an upgraded speaker system for rich entertainment experience.

The standout feature of the MatePad Pro 13.2 is its giant 13.2-inch OLED display. With a resolution of 1.5K, it delivers crisp and detailed visuals. The 144Hz refresh rate ensures smooth graphics and buttery user experience. The 3:2 aspect ratio provides a comfortable reading and browsing experience, while the display's ability to reach up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness makes it usable even in bright outdoor settings.

The tablet features a 16MP front-facing camera housed in a notch cutout on the middle of the horizontal side of the screen. On the back, there's a camera island with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide sensor, adding versatility for capturing photos and videos. While tablets aren't typically known for their camera capabilities, I think this tab has a cool combination.

The MatePad Pro 13.2 is equipped with the Kirin 9000s chipset, which is known for years now. It is old but Huawei has no other options. The pofornace and power efficiency should be lower than most of Snapdragon Processors. But combined with 12GB or 16GB of RAM, this tablet will be able to handle multitasking, productivity tasks, and even demanding applications with ease.

The tablet houses a massive 10,100mAh battery, ensuring all-day battery life, even with heavy usage. What's more impressive is the 88W wired fast charging support, which allows the tablet to be charged quickly, minimizing downtime. This is the fastest charging I've seen on a tab I guess.

The MatePad Pro 13.2 runs on HarmonyOS 4, Huawei's proprietary operating system. HarmonyOS brings a seamless and interactive user experience, with features customized for productivity and multitasking. Huawei offers two optional accessories for the MatePad Pro 13.2, enhancing its functionality. The third-generation M-Pencil stylus provides precise input for drawing and note-taking, while the Huawei Smart Magnetic keyboard transforms the tablet into a laptop-like device for efficient typing.

In China, the MatePad Pro 13.2 is competitively priced, starting at CNY 5,199 (approximately $700) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The pricing goes up to CNY 6,999 (around $950) for the top-tier version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Considering the tablet's standout features and capabilities, it offers good value for money.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 is a standout tablet with a stunning display, average processor, and nostalgic design. It suits for both productivity and entertainment needs, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of users. With its competitive pricing, it will be a compelling option in the tablet market.
