The chairperson called the "Suhada Kantha Samithiya" meeting, which is our final one of the year, before the election of General Assembly officers for the year 2023. Although I am a member of society, I often won't go to the meeting other than to provide all the support from staying outside. However, the society's chairperson paid me a personal visit that day and invited me to the meeting because there were still many important issues that needed to be covered.
As a result, I decided to attend the meeting that day, with the respect to the Chairperson. We have a different building in our scheme called "Samithi Shalava to hold these kinds of gatherings. All of our meetings and other activities like avurudu uthsava, bakthigeetha sandarashana, and dansal take place here. I went there, then, to attend our conference. The majority of the members were present when I arrived at that location. Our meeting began at 4:30 p.m. sharp, as our chairperson announced. The chair, secretary, and treasurer were seated around the front table.
Out of the 30 members, around 20 came up for the meeting. We got pansil as usual, and after that, the chairperson invited the treasurer to give the congregation the budget report. The secretary gave the congregation the meeting report after the treasure’s presentation. After presenting a suggestion and obtaining confirmation that the report was true, the Chairperson gave a brief explanation of the gathering's purpose to the congregation.
She continued by mentioning that our general assembly will be the next week and that new officers needed to be elected. Members were respectfully requested to keep that in mind when selecting candidates for the position. She continued by describing the annual Buddhist monk sermon and the dana ritual. Later, the assembly decided on the monks' names and completed all aspects of almsgiving.
It was a morning alms giving for ten monks. The ladies who attended the gathering shared food and pirikara among themselves. They completed everything necessary before adjourning the meeting at around six o'clock. Before the meeting ended, the chairperson served us tea and cake.
The councilors departured friendly, intending to return to the general assembly the following week.
