Today, there was an almsgiving for my uncle's 25th death anniversary. My aunty, now 92 years old, wanted to donate alms every year to remember her husband. Therefore, she organized this event again this year with the help of their daughters and sons, that is, my cousins.
Every year, we are invited to this event, and this year is no exception. We are most likely participating in this ceremony since it allows us to meet our other cousins. We don't visit their house very often because they live in different areas. However, when we had such a ceremony or burial for any of our relatives, we all gathered together. If not, we will seldom meet.
At around 10.30 a.m., we went there; by that time, all arrangements had been completed, and many people had arrived. I prepared clustered jelly for monks and handed over it to one of my cousins. When I inquired if they needed any help, they claimed everything was OK. Within ten minutes of my arrival, the monks arrived at my aunt's residence. Even though we were in Gampaha, the monks were accompanying us from Nawala temple, where one of my cousins lived.
We offered meals to the monks, followed by pirikara, and the monks were quite pleased with the almsgiving and other pirikaras, since they received a large number of them.
When the monks returned to the temple, we all ate our meal together and took photographs to retain as memories for future use. We also spent precious time laughing and gossiping about each other's lives. Furthermore, we recollect our previous interactions with our uncle and other uncles and aunties. Remembering our former memories gives us a lot of happiness, and it keeps our memories fresh.
Some cousins have aged, while others' ages cannot be determined. Some cousins are already grandmothers and grandfathers. Some are going to be grandparents, like me. Anyway, we had a wonderful time with them today. After several hours of conversing and joking, we returned to our house at 5:00 p.m., wishing my aunty a long life.
