The Nazis in Antarctica?

The reality is not as spectacular as it is painted in some cases, To begin with, we must understand that Germany is much more than the Nazi era and before Adolf Hitler came to power, Germany, like any other country of its time, wanted or dreamed of being a power and having its colonial empire, that was what it was. fashionable at that time and also reaching Antarctica was a goal.

Furthermore, Patagonia, the south of Chile and Argentina had a special charm for the Germans, keeping in mind that all those wonderful landscapes of forests, snow-capped mountains in Lagos, green meadows reminded us of what ancient Europe was like, Europe. Of the Germanic myths, the Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand, which has a fairly similar landscape, but that is the landscape of Germanic mythology and that is why it had that special charm.

Before the Nazis there were two German expeditions to Antarctica in 1901 to 1903, which were the Gauss expedition and the Filchner expedition from 1911 to 1913. During the First World War, Germany considered the region strategic and there were two very tough battles, one was the Battle of Coronel. in Chile where the Germans won, the British lost two cruisers and 1654 British sailors died and the battle of the Malvinas Islands where the British won and the Germans lost four ships and 1871 sailors.

But this thing about the Nazi State in the south of the Atlantic is real, because there was a plan that consisted of creating an independence Revolution in both Argentine and Chilean Patagonia and then claiming Antarctica to create a Germanophile southern United States or in any case a Nazi colony, in fact, there is a document from that time.

This document is one of those that exist on this plan, the plan would therefore be to create a Brotherhood United States of the South around Patagonia, the plan was based on the more than 200,000 Germans who lived in Argentina and Chile and strategically placed at the service from Germany a crucial passage of naval routes, in addition to a lot of mining resources in the region.

This plan was supported by a secret dossier signed in 1937 in Buenos Aires by Alfred Müller, head of the Nazi party of Argentina, but in the end it remained only on paper because there were several problems, two main ones, the first being that evidently Chile and Argentina had If they had stood by, they would have reacted and the second is that the South Atlantic at that time and especially after the First World War was a British sea, the British were in charge there.

It would have been impossible to bring supplies to those who had risen up to create the new nation, in fact, during World War II the British blocked any ship that tried to take goods from Argentina to Germany, it was completely useless for Germany to try to get resources, although If Argentina were a neutral state, it could not sell resources to whoever it wanted because the British had blocked it.

This matter did not go beyond paper, what the Nazis did do was send a German expedition from 1938 to 1939, the expedition ship was quite well equipped, they took it to what they called New Swabia, some believe that this expedition was the which allowed the Nazis to establish a secret base in Antarctica, where they took Hitler at the end of the war and a whole movie story without evidence.
