Hello everybody! Today I would like to go back a little bit and make the second part of the article about the St. George Monastery. We got there when we made our trip from St. Petersburg to Novgorod.
INFORMATION FROM THE NETWORK: According to ancient legends, the Orthodox Russian Prince Yaroslav the Wise founded two monasteries in 1030 after the victory over the miracle. A place was chosen for the foundation of the Novgorod monastery on Lake Ilmen in the village of Rakomo. Later, the monastery was named in honor of the Holy Great Martyr and Wonderworker George the Victorious.
Since childhood, I have had a very reverent attitude towards monasteries. Once upon a time, back in Soviet times, monasteries were not popular with the population of the country, they were known about their existence, but they were not widely publicized.
I remember my friend once invited me to explore an ancient fortress, which, according to him, he discovered near the central part of our city, and where he was going to take us, his friends, to prove that all this was not his invention and that the fortress exists. I remember that we never reached the walls of this fortress that day, although we had already moved quite far from our homes. My parents might have missed me and we, small children, asked to go home because we were scared and we had not traveled so far yet.
In those years, I thought that my friend had invented an ancient fortress and I continued to believe that there was really nothing in the place where we had never reached in childhood. Later, as an adult, I reconsidered my view.
The fact is that the "ancient fortress", about which my friend spoke so passionately, was a monastery, which indeed represents some semblance of a fortress - the same high walls, gates and towers. But in those years, the temples of the monastery were destroyed and my friend could not know what exactly he found on the outskirts of the city.
Today we periodically go to that Svensky monastery, there are excellent views from the hill, there is a peaceful atmosphere and all the temples and churches have been completely restored. And this is wonderful, because I remembered this childhood story while traveling around Novgorod and visiting the local Yuriev Monastery.
Привет всем! Сегодня я бы хотел вернуться немного назад и сделать вторую часть статьи о Юрьевском монастыре. Туда мы попали, когда совершали свою поездку из Петербурга в Новгород.

Для закладки Новгородской обители место было выбрано на озере Ильмень в селе Ракомо. Позже монастырь был назван в честь Святого Великомученика и Чудотворца Георгия Победоносца .
У меня с детства к монастырям очень трепетное отношение. Когда-то давно, ещё во времена СССР монастыри не пользовались популярностью у населения страны, о их существовании знали, но широкой огласки не велось.
Помню, мой друг однажды позвал меня исследовать старинную крепость, которую, по его словам, он обнаружил недалеко от центральной части нашего города, и куда собрался отвести нас, своих друзей, чтобы доказать, что это всё не его выдумка и что крепость существует. Помню, в тот день мы так и не добрались до стен этой крепости, хотя и так отошли от своих домов довольно далеко. Меня могли хватиться родители и мы, маленькие дети, запросились домой, потому что нам стало страшно и так далеко мы ещё не путешествовали.
В те годы я так и считал, что мой друг выдумал про старинную крепость и я продолжал верить в то, что в том месте, куда мы в детстве так и не дошли, на самом деле ничего нет. Позже, став взрослым, я пересмотрел свой взгляд.
Дело в том, что "старинная крепость", про которую так страстно рассказывал мой товарищь, был монастырём, который и в самом деле представляет собой некоторое подобие крепости - те же высокие стены, ворота и башни. Но в те годы храмы монастыря были разрушены и мой друг не мог знать, что именно он нашёл на окраине города.
Сегодня мы периодически езим в тот Свенский монастырь, там отличные виды с холма, там умиротворяющая атмосфера и все храмы и церкви полностью восстановлены. И это прекрасно, потому что я вспомнил об этой истории детства, путешествуя по Новгороду и осматривая местный Юрьевский монастырь.
