The topic that today i have to share with you is about the Rumen.

First of all we have to know about that what is rumen?

Rumen:

"Rumen is the largest part of the stomach."

Types of herbivores:

1. Ruminant
In which the rumen is present
2. Non ruminant
In which no rumen is present

Ruminant mammals:
The animals which chew their cud are called the ruminant mammals.
For example: cow, sheep, deer etc.

They mammals have the great modification in the stomach. These animals eat a large amount of the food quickly. but the chew their food slowly. A large number of the microorganisms are live in the ruminant stomach. In this the micro organisms digest the cellulose present in the cell wall of grasses. These enzymes also lack the cellulose.

Chambers:

The stomach of the ruminants is divided into the four chambers.

  • Rumen
    Upper portion of the stomach
  • Reticulum
It is also part of the upper portion of the stomach
  • Omasum
    lower portion of the stomach
  • Abomasum
a true stomach. It is present behind the omasum.

Mechanism:

  • Food first enter the rumen. Microorganisms are present in it . the microorganisms partially changes the food into pulpy soft mass.

  • then the mass move in to the reticulum. In this the food is thoroughly chewed. then it is reswallowed.

  • Now the food enters the rumen. It becomes more liquid. now the digested food moves flows out of the reticulcum and moves into the omasum.

  • Then it moves into the abomasums.

  • Abomasums is a glandular reigon. it secretes digestive enzymes for digestion.

this is my point of view about the rumen. i hope you all understand and like it.
