Bad condition of Hazari road in Feni city. The car moves through the potholed road. The road has become impassable due to lack of renovation for the last 10 years due to the tension over ownership. Residents traveling on that road suffered greatly due to this.
According to the related sources, this road connects the Mahipal and Feni-Comilla road of Dhaka-Chittagong highway, which is one of the means of access to Feni. The road was built with soil in 2000 at the initiative of Zainal Abedin Hazari, former Member of Parliament of Feni. Since then it is known as 'Hazari Sadak'. It is more important than other roads in the city as the administrative offices of the district are also located next to it. It is also known as 'VIP Road' as the administrative officers of the district travel through this road. The road is important from commercial and administrative point of view. However, the shopkeepers and traders around the road are suffering due to the situation.
The road was paved by the Directorate of Local Government Engineering in the financial year 2005-06. The road was then handed over to Feni Municipality. Last in 2012, the municipality did road renovation work at a cost of one and a half crore rupees. After that, no renovation work has been done in the last 10 years.
The ditches were filled with bricks and sand several times at the initiative of the municipality, but to no avail. Currently the condition of the road is dilapidated. At the beginning of 2022, the municipal authorities sent a letter to the Roads and Highways Department to hand over the road. The suffering of the locals has now turned into anger as the road has not been renovated due to various tensions over ownership. Minor accidents often occur due to potholes across the road.
About this, on 20th September 2022, Jagonnews24.com published a news under the title 'Hazari Road of Feni has not been renovated even in 10 years'. Apart from this, the matter is given importance by several media. After that the Roads and Public Ways Department (SOAZ) took the initiative to rehabilitate the road.
