Hi Steemians! I am your friend Salman. I hope you will be fine and in good health. On May 31st, International No Tobacco Day (Commit to Quit), I will cover a critical issue in human health.
Brief Introduction:
Every year on May 31, the world commemorates World No Tobacco Day to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco usage. The yearly campaign is a chance to raise awareness about the need of reducing consumption and protecting people's health. On this day, a variety of activities, seminars, and events are held to raise awareness of the harmful consequences of smoking on one's health. Quitting smoking has both immediate and long-term health advantages. Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates World No Tobacco Day to raise awareness about the health hazards associated with tobacco use and urge countries to implement measures to limit smoking, including other tobacco products. Tobacco is classified as a carcinogen (Cancer-causing agent) by the World Health Organization (WHO).

History of International Tobacco Day:

The World Health Organization declared April 7, 1988, as "World No Smoking Day" in a resolution approved in 1987. The law was enacted to encourage individuals to abstain from smoking for at least 24 hours. In 1988, the organization issued an additional resolution designating May 31 as World No Tobacco Day. In 2008, WHO forbade all tobacco advertising and promotion, citing the fact that such advertisements are likely to encourage young people to smoke.
Side effects of smoking on human health:
Tobacco use kills more than 8 million people worldwide each year, according to the WHO. Smoking any type of tobacco lowers lung capacity and makes respiratory disorders more severe.

Following are side effects of smoking on human health:
1) Respiratory diseases:
Smoke contains chemicals that might harm your lungs when inhaled. Mucus production spikes shortly after quitting smoking, indicating that your respiratory system is healing. Coughing, wheezing, and asthma episodes are more likely in children whose parents smoke.
2) Heart diseases:
Smoking harms your cardiovascular system as a whole. Stroke, heart attack, and heart disease are all risks. Nonsmokers are at the same risk as smokers when they are exposed to secondhand smoke.
3) Gum disease:
smoking also puts your teeth in danger. Periodontitis, a gum infection that damages the bone that supports the teeth, is exacerbated by smoking. It is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults.
4) Fertility Issues:
Moms-to-be take note: Smoking can affect your ability to conceive. It causes reduced fertility in women and can contribute to other problems during pregnancy.
5) Losing your sight:
It's not healthy for your eyes to smoke. Smoking raises your chances of developing age-related macular degeneration, the major cause of blindness in those over 65.
6) Erectile Dysfunction (ED):
When you smoke, your male sexual function is harmed. Tobacco causes blood arteries throughout the body to constrict, including those that feed blood to the penis. The good news is that stopping smoking will have a significant impact.
7) Diabetes Type 2:
Smoking is linked to type 2 diabetes and raises the risk of complications, such as impaired blood flow in the legs and feet. This can cause infection and necessitate the amputation of a limb. Yes, your foot or leg might be amputated!
8) Ectopic Pregnancy
Ectopic pregnancy is a potentially fatal reproductive issue that is more common in women who smoke. It happens when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus. The egg will not survive, putting Mom's life in danger.
9) Fractures of the Hips:
Smokers lose bone density quicker than nonsmokers, putting you in danger of breaking bodily components such as your hip. Putting down the smokes can help slow down this process and keep you on the dance floor breaking a sweat rather than your bones.
10) Colorectal Cancer:
Colorectal cancer, which develops in the intestines (colon or rectum), is the second most common cancer in the United States. One of the reasons is that Cigarette smoking, to be precise. This form of cancer is connected to an increased chance of developing and dying from smoking.
11) Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA):
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the joints in your hands and feet and is more frequent in women. It produces severe swelling, which can lead to bone loss and joint deformities in the long run. One of the factors is smoking, which is also linked to the disease developing at a younger age.
